We're only two days into a new week, and I'm liking what I'm seeing.  My real estate life is going great guns, and I'm thrilled with that, but the other side of my life is the one I'm talking about today.  My electrical contracting business is doing well.  We have a great client base, and it continues to grow.

This week, I've had two calls from former clients.  In both cases, the clients found out it would be a while before I could get to them, and each one said, "No problem.  It's worth the wait."  A few years ago, I had a client wait a year for me to get to him.  He didn't mind a bit.  That is so very humbling, but it teaches me a great lesson.  Good service is remembered.

How does that translate to our real estate careers?Satisfaction Guaranteed

  • Be better than your clients expect.
  • Give better service than they expect.
  • Do more than they expect.
  • Demonstrate more competence than they expect.
  • Show more interest than they expect.
  • Deliver more results than they expect.
  • Exemplify more humility than they expect.
  • Express more thankfulness than they expect.

I'm always humbled when my electrical clients express their overwhelming satisfaction with our company.  I received two referrals this week from past customers.  We did a great job for them, and they passed it on.  I expect excellence out of our technicians, and I demand it out of myself.  But, it's no different in my real estate business.

On my last short sale, my clients were just 18 hours from foreclosure when I was able to get it stopped, their house under contract and sold.  Do you think they will refer me to their friends?  You betcha!  Be the professional you would want to hire, and you'll always have plenty of business.

Under promise and over deliver - and you'll have a long list of clients who wouldn't choose anyone else.

Mike, If you had to summarize this entire blog into one phrase, it would have been this one, "Be the professional you would want to hire."  Isn't that really the case?  If we wouldn't hire us, why would anyone else?

That's a good philosophy, Marte.

Agreed, Kat.  That's what I look for when I'm trying to hire someone too.  I want someone who works like we do.  8-)
