I was just about to write a post on the same subject but Pat Kennedy did a much better job so I am reposting this.  The number of emails about day to day changes on agents listings is increasing and is spam, nothing more.  If agents would simply do a great job when entering their listings onto the MLS I will pick it up which is better than annoying other agents and being deleted.

Via Patricia Kennedy (Evers & Company Realtors):

My morning ritual begins checking the email that came in overnight.  And lately most of them are from Realtors in and outside of the DC Metro area telling me about

  • New listings
  • Their next Broker's Open House
  • Their next public Open House
  • A huge price reduction
  • Another huge price reduction
  • Another Open House
  • A notice that the sellers got the front lawn mowed.

It goes on and on.

There is some of it that I don't mind getting.  If it's about a listing that is in my market area or that I've got a buyer for, it could be useful. If it is a favorite colleague with a private exclusive in Cleveland Park that she's inviting a few agents over for a sneak preview, I'll get excited.

But mostly they come in irrelevant bundles telling me about some new condo in West Virginia, where I'm not even licensed!  And there is no address so I'll know it's in West Virginia.  And the link in the email that leads to the web site that will tell me how fabulous the place is doesn't work!

And when it is a listing in my market area that's been on the market for months, it's like that old thing?  Open again?

So what I'm trying to say here is that when I have to start my day by deleting 60 emails without even opening most of them, is that something that is going to make me likely to show the listings they're trying to get me excited about.

It's spam.

Just plain old annoying spam.

While this means of disseminating information might have been OK while it was still a novelty, it isn't any more.

Good re-blog Miriam- I agree 100%.  I actually deleted several emails from other agents this morning posting their listings in my email box.

All those redundant listings are SPAM to me too! If I want their listing, I'm a Realtor, and I will find it!
