There are so many ways you can help animals in your community. The ASPCA is one of many great organizations that I support that are involved in the humane treatment of animals.. One of the ways you can help without having to do much more than send an email, is get involved sending letters (provided by the ASPCA and other organizations) to your state senators and representatives. They may it so simple.. for example click on any links in this post:

Several great animal-related bills are pending in the South Carolina Legislature, but their progress has stalled lately and there are only a few weeks left in the state’s legislative session. If you live in SC, we need your help to get them moving toward passage before it’s too late!

The three South Carolina bills supported by the ASPCA would:

- Increase penalties for certain acts of animal cruelty. The maximum sentence for cruelty is currently so light that it’s completely ineffective as a deterrent.

- Ban inhumane methods of animal euthanasia, including gassing.

- Allow pets to be included in orders of protection. This is extremely important for both pets and human victims of domestic violence.

What You Can Do If you Live In SC

Visit the ASPCA Advocacy Center online right now to quickly email your SC state senator and SC state representative in Columbia. Our editable email urges them to pass these important humane bills before the sun sets on the 2012 legislative session.

you know I never even considered a pet being part of an order of protection.  I see how it could be needed though.

Hello Sheila. Political action is important but I believe that working directly with an organization that helps pets is more imoportant.

Tammy - pets are people too.. LOL...

Sheila - I agree, but many people look for an easier way due to time or money.. getting involved with political issues is easier for some to do.

Morning Sheila I think that if one is mean or cruel to animals the next step is the human race.  I agree stricter laws are needed to deal with animal cruelty

Sheila Newton, while I do agree with my good friend Sheila Anderson that being involved directly with animals in a "hands on" way is very important there can be many reasons why someone might not be able to do that and I wouldn't want to judge someone for being unable to volunteer time at a shelter or taking in foster animals.  The war against animal cruelty must be waged on many fronts simultaneously is essential.

James and Mona - thanks for the comments.. :) and yes, if you are unkind to an animal then you most likely will be the same to an animal..and there are many people I know that are not able to have a pet, but they do believe in the rights of the pets.. emailing senators is great for them.. any way to help is a good way
