Abandoned dog. The power of Facebook

My husband was hunting in a private property last October and he noticed a very skinny dog in the yard next door. The dog was so hungry that he couldn’t move. My husband found out with Billy, the owner of the land that he was hunting, that the dog’s owner went to jail and they left the dog behind.

My husband offered to help. He mentioned my community Facebook page and told Billy that we could found that dog a home.

Here was my post:

Abandoned; 11 month old male mastiff. Brown w/ black muzzle. 90 lbs with a big frame. His owner left. He is extremely thin, but still has a great disposition. Big and gentle! He appears to be a pure bred, but its anyone's guess as to where his pedigree paperwork is. Free to a good loving home. Call Billy at 301-xxxxx

Billy received more than 20 calls with people interested on adopting Dexter. Dexter is living now with a nice family! I love happy ends! Sorry about my English, this is not my first language, but I had to tell you this history. It can inspire you to use your social media tools for a good cause! Have a nice day!

What a great story and it was so nice your husband didn't hesitate to do what he did.  Never apologize for your writing.  I would never have known English wasn't your first language. You have a great command of it, never apologize!

Gabriela I enjoyed your post. I am happy that with both your husband's and your efforts you were able to rescue Dexter and find him a good home. The world would be a much better place if everyone would put such effort in helping lost/abandoned animals.

Hi Gabriela,  Great happy, feel good story !  Thanks to all for getting involved.  For me, the most amazing part is that if that dogs' owner came back today the dog would still love him unconditionally !

Great story!  I listed the home of a deceased man who had a sweet female German Shepherd.  She was thin even though his sister supposedly came by every day to feed her.  She asked me to help find a home for Princess so I posted on a few places including Petfinder (Facebook wasn't around yet or it wasn't as popular).  We found her new owners pretty quickly and I felt better about that than getting the home sold.

Thank you all for your comments! I will try to get a new picture. I remember that Billy called my husband and said “please take that post off there because I’m getting too many calls!” lol Several good heart families offered him a home and they chose one that had other dogs so Dexter could have a happy environment. More to come…

Dexter went to a family in hughesville. They had one dog and wanted another. Billy said that they had a 2nd vacation home on the water and that's where Dexter went on the weekends. Billy said he gained alot of weight! He is a happy dog!

Oh, Gabriela! It's SO nice to be reading an upbeat story of success!  Dexter is a big beautiful baby--Mastiffs are absolutely wonderful big-hearted dogs....I'm glad he is with "siblings" now, too!

Give your hubby a big hug from his pet-lovin' friends in ActiveRain.

Gabriela, like the others commenting on your post, there would be a lovely sense of closure to see a happy healthy dog in a post story photo.
