This was the first Christmas in our new house. We were so happy to find this brand new house at an affordable price during this "down" market. We still haven't moved everything in, and though we haven't organized everything, yet, I had Christmas dinner here, anyway.
I got distracted, though, when I suggested that we go ahead and set up the Skype so that we could talk to my oldest daughter, son in law and four children in another state. (I forgot to cook the bread or warm up the baked beans. Did you know Wal Mart has some really good baked beans in the deli section?) One of my son in laws (early 20's) thought he could put the picture on our HDTV in the great room. "Okay, but you better put my notebook computer back the way it was. My whole business is on this computer."
Well, we got the picture on there, but after a few minutes it went to a DOS screen and said it was dumping memory. "Help, what is going on????" So, my husband decided to get his computer, which didn't have Skype on it, and didn't have the driver for my webcam. I kept saying we should just use my notebook computer with the regular screen.
After he worked about 30 minutes, it was determined that my notebook should be used. Well, he got the picture on the HDTV again and after about 3 minutes---blue screen---dumping memory again. You know, I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings or make anybody mad, but I use that computer for my business, and I haven't backed it up in a while--Whoops.
We gave up, because we had to eat. Then later, I couldn't even get the Skype window to come up. "Son-in-law, please put it back the way it was."
"I don't know anything about PCs, he said, I have a MAC."
Oh well, my brother-in-law (late 50s) was able to find the window on the other monitor before it did another dump. We started playing Catch Phrase, and my daughter Skyped us during the game. We could see them on my little screen on the notebook computer; we got to see them; and they got to talk to everyone.
It was our first Xmas in our new house, AND as a married couple!
Happy Holidays!
