The weekend is almost here; what do you have planned? If you live in the greater Jacksonville, FL area you are in for a treat! On Sunday, April 22nd Slow Food First Coast will again be holding a Tour-de-Farm. One of Slow Food’s objectives is to “reconnect Americans with the people, traditions, plants, animals, fertile soils, and waters that produce our food,” and this event provides the perfect opportunity to do just that. During Tour-de-Farm, farmers throughout the First Coast welcome visitors and give tours of their farms to show where and how the foods we eat are produced. Children are welcome at most of the farms and in addition to tours some farms offer activities such as petting zoos, hayrides, a cow train, visiting chickens and goats, honey tasting, children’s crafts, wine tasting, picking blueberries, buying fresh vegetables, herbs and pies and food stands. Chefs from some of Jacksonville’s finest restaurants will also be at some of the farms. If you have ever wanted to meet and talk with the chefs from restaurants such as Sawgrass Marriott’s Augustine Grill, Bistro Aix, Taverna and ‘Town, Tour-de-Farm provides a perfect chance for you to do that. Be sure to bring a cooler too as there will be produce, meats, eggs and other foods for sale.
