For many years it was the dream of Josephine and Anna Salvatico to own their own Montessori school.

Josephine and Anna, both trained teachers, had commuted to Albany for years to work at a Montessori school.  Since I too was a commuter we usually discussed the long commutes, the weather, and their dreams.

I was happy to see their dream finally become a reality a few years ago with the construction of the little Montessori School

The question you might be asking is: who started Montessori?

The program was started by Maria Montessori  thus the name Montessori.

What is the Montessori program?  This program is popular in North America and is gaining momentum throughout the world.

The program does offer an alternative to the traditional preschool option.  If this is an option you are contemplating for your child it would be a good idea to visit the school to see the operation.   And if you are in the Red Hook /Tivoli area I know Anna and Josephine would welcome you to their little Montessori school.

My twins were Montessori students. It started as a break for me but they really enjoyed it.  I believe to the core of my being that Montessori is why they're such kind, reasonable people.  It helped them with a great foundation.

Everytime we drive past this building my eldest son screams "There's my old school!!"  He misses it terribly.  Anna and Josephine were fantastic and huge believers in the Montessori system...good folk those Salvatico's!

Jennifer, we have one here in Middletown and it is run by a group of Nuns.  The school is regarded as one of the best in the area.

Jennifer, Our Montessori school is popular here as well and has been around for many years.  It has an excellent reputation and the last I'd heard there was a waiting list.

Chris- The parents I have met who have used the program all swear by it.

JL - I will be sure to do that.

Jesse - I know the children really love going there.

George - The schools are usually perceived as a great place to give  a child a foundation

Carole - That's true the programs are held in such high regards that a waiting  list is is not uncommon.

There was a time when Montessori schools were looked at with scepticism. Not any more. Many of my favorite baby toys are Montessori.
