New Year's Resolution.... Why do I do it?

By

Each year I have the same ol' resolution, get in shape, get healthier and lose weight!  (hate to admit that in a public forum!)  But it is true.  This year I am also adding, stay in better contact w/ previous clients and worker harder at getting new ones.

However, last year, didn't fulfill my resolution, year before that didn't, year before that didn't.  So, why do I keep putting myself through this?  What makes me think THIS year I will finally stick with it?

That is my million dollar question to myself... (if I had a million)

I guess it is the hope that I will actually stick to it.  That I will remember how good I felt when I did work out every day and MADE that time for myself.   That I am a happier person as a whole when I am at my ideal weight and I get that "stress" outa my life by working out.  Boy do I miss those days!

So, those of you who are succesful or aren't...  What are your thoughts?  Does anybody else have this struggle?

I recommit all the time. I am looking at the commitments I need to make in the next two weeks.

I was in Colorada Spring about two months ago for a convention. What a beautiful place you have to live in.

all the best in your new year

Hi Brooke:  I think we continue to do it with the best of intentions.  I think this year I am going to try and not make such vague resolutions, but make them in small, achievable bits and pieces.  That way I am not overwhelmed, and have more of a chance of success.  Thanks for sharing...

When making resolutions, try to do the goal setting thing.....
Write down the steps that are needed to achieve that goal or resolution.
Not just lose weight, but maybe 'eat a vegetable with each meal'  or 'walk on the treadmill for 15 every day'
Make those steps your goals/resolutions.
Yes, easier said than done but just try it!

I set my goals a few times a year.  That way, if the steps that I'm taking aren't helping me to reach my goals, I try something new that might help me.

Good luck and Happy New Year!

My New Years resolution is to continue sticking to my plan and completing my goals on time. I agree that many people go and sign up for a Gym Membership or something and then by March, have stopped going. This is why Gyms sell 65% of their memberships in January and by April the place is vacated and they can sell more. In fact, they try to sign people up for a year in advance based on this knowledge, So your post is very accurate and to the point.

Brooke - I think its about Mindset and a few other things, the way you wrote the post and referenced( Each year I have the same ol' resolution, get in shape, get healthier and lose weight!)  In my opinion you have already set yourself up for failure by the words you used from the past.

I would highly suggest two books - one is a classic -- Think and grow Rich, by Napoleon Hill - get the Action Pack -- the other is The Power of Your Mind, Dr. Joseph Murphy

Your weight goal --think of a desired outcome or a pair of jeans you want to fit into --you get the picture and set a plan to accomplish the goal.  For example, start with something you can do easily once a week.  Slowly add to it while keeping those jeans in a place where you can see it everyday.  Meanwhile before going to bed each night set your intention to work your plan the next day -- be very specific like I will walk 10 minutes tomorrow.

Get people on your team that have a like mindset or find an accountability partner!

I believe you can do it if you put your mind to it with action to follow!

I personally do not ever have problems fulfilling my goals, but I know many do, one of the the things that makes it tough for folks is that they concentrate on the end goal so much they forget the tiny goal steps along the way that they must perform to get to the eventual goal. Lance
