Our Christmas' used to be wild and fun...with wrappings everywhere, new toys to play with, family to visit, tons of baking and preparation to do but as the years have gone by things change....Our kids are grown and live out of state, hubby works retail and, of course, Christmas Eve day is one of the biggest retail days of the year so he had to work thus there was no seeing our kids this Christmas.
Now Christmas is quiet. It's lonely without the 'children' but we usually have Thanksgiving all together, so it's ok (this year we gave them a 'special dispensation' from Thanksgiving because of the expense of our daughter's wedding in October...we were all together then). Anyway...for Christmas this year my husband and I decided to take a drive 'up the mountain'... 'the mountain' is Mount Charleston, a 45 minute drive from Las Vegas taking us to heights of over 7,000 feet. There was plenty of snow, kids snowboarding, adults and children skiing and it was a gorgeous day with the sun shining (and melting the snow). It was pretty chilly...somewhere in the low 30's we suspect...but that did not damper people's spirits. We even saw people picnicking in the campgrounds....roasting marshmallows over a small fire. We saw a couple of tents also...can't imagine anyone camping in the cold and snow but who knows!
We ate an awesome traditional Christmas dinner (ham, yams, stuffing, pumpkin pie) looking out over the snow capped mountain tops from our table at the Inn. The Inn is the picture above upper left.
