Be a hero.  Rescue a pet.  The last two dogs that have graced the Cooper Tony the King of Heartshouse have been rescues.  Tony, the first rescue was a heart stealer.  He had an amazing ability to make friends.  We often had friends ask about Tony whenever they called or emailed.  He was loved by all.

Then came Hoss.  Hoss is a lot like Tony.  I called Tony the King of Hearts because he was so widely loved.  Hoss is right up there with him.  Hoss is so well known around this area that he has his own Facebook fan page.  That used to bother me when he had more friends on his Facebook page than I had.  Not really.

Hoss the dogBoth of dogs seemed to appreciate their second chance.  You couldn't ask for better temperaments than these boys have had.  Hoss, the current fur-ball king of the Cooper House is a lot like one of the boys.  He has his daily routines.  He doesn't like to have it messed up, and he loves to play around.

Do a pound puppy, or a foster dog a big favor and give him/her a forever home.  He/she will love you, and before you know it, he/she will be the fur-ball King/Queen of your Castle.

All 3 of our canine companions are rescues - and I'm grateful to have every one of them as part of our family.

All of our pets have been through similar methods. We have had great success with them all Mike. I wish more people would consider these options.

That's how I felt after Tony.  I was in Denver and the rest of the clan went out and picked up Hoss.  I wasn't quite ready yet, but now I'm glad they did.  He's awesome.

Excellent, Marte.

Me too, Tom.  There are so many available that would love a forever home.

Mutt's and pound puppies seem to be the best tempered, so long as they haven't been abused. I love rescuing pets and couldn't imagine voluntarily going to a pet store to get one. Great post and they are the sweetest!!

Good morning Mike. You know that I couldn't agree more because my experience like yours has been life altering. Pets are so loving and great fun too.

Unconditional love, Sheila.  They are certainly unique in that.

Mike we have a tough boy now that we haven't been able to find a forever home for. He is bigger now and difficult because he is confused. He came from North Carolina, and his owner lost their home. He has been returned twice and has a mild form of epilepsy. He's about 70 pounds now and I'm not sure what will happen to him if he's not placed soon. I kept thinking of you. I just think he needs constancy, direction and love. Any interest?

He's a beauty, Sheila.  I will ask around.  I'm not sure the big guy here is ready for a roommate.

OK Mike, I thought it was worth an ask. He is strong, but I thought yours was the perfect place for him. That's his puppy picture. He's a lot bigger now but clearly smaller than Hoss.

Oh, I'd love to give him that forever home.  He looks like a great dog.  My first rescue sounds a lot like him.  He had been bounced around so many times that the SPCA threatened to come get him and put him down because I didn't go through them when the previous owner dumped him.  I said, "Try it."  I never heard from them again.  8-)

Sheila, I will definitely ask around.

Same here, Elyse.  I've often thought they are thankful for a second chance.

I'm all on board... we have two pups and three cats... all shelter or strays we took into our home.  I think we'll always have rescue pets in our home.

Sheila:  He looks like he could be the father of my Scarlet who came from a kill shelter in TN and was taken in by the North Shore Animal League where I adopted her!

She has the same ear spots at the tips of her ears and that one big butt spot!

Good morning Mike,

Wonderful post, all of my children are rescues and typically the "unadoptable" or special needs (seizure disorders, etc...)  They can be a challenge, but the love they give is worth the effort.
