Dogs that live in the city don’t often get the chance to just be free and enjoy themselves off of a leash. Socializing with other dogs while being off a leash is not only good for your dog physically it’s also good for them mentally. If your dog isn’t used to being around other dogs it’s probably a good idea to keep them on their leash the first couple of times until they get used to being around multiple dogs at a time. Alexandria has 20 off leash dog parks.

Ben Brenman Park

Walter and I have visited quite a few and our favorites are Ben Brenman Park and Dog Run Park at Carlyle. The dog park at Ben Brenman is located at the back of the park and everyone is always very laid back and friendly. During the week there are normally only a couple other dogs in the fenced area but, it can get crowded on the weekends. The Carlyle dog park is nice because it has a separate area for small dogs, benches to sit on in the fenced dog area and drinking water. I tend to bring a bowl with me but, it’s nice to not have to carry water as well.

Good morning Amanda. Walter is such a lucky boy to have a friend that is aware of his needs and acts on them. Good information.

Off Leash Dog Parks in Alexandria, Virginia

Hi Amanda -

Great information for dog owners and lovers.  I think all of Albuquerque and Rio Rancho NM's dog parks are leash free.  I can't imagine going to one where the dogs had to remain on lead.  Dixie goes and runs with the big as well as the little dogs. Debbie and I either socialize with the humans, while petting friendly dogs or sit on a bench and just watch our child have a great time romping and being a dog :)

Hi Sheila. Thank you, it's what any good Mom would do ;) Enjoy your day!

John- Sounds like Dixie has some pretty cool parents! They get so happy to be free I can't imagine not giving them that chance.

Hi Amanda,  We have several dog parks here too.  The dogs have such a good time there.  This is a great localism post for your area.

Amanda, I am glad you put this out there.  There isn't one in the whole county where I live.  Amazing.

Joan- Thank you!

Elyse- A good friend lives in Boca and has boxers. I've been to one of your dog parks, I'll have to ask her which. It's a great community feature. You live in a gorgeous area!

Don/Tammy- That's crazy. It makes me thankful we have them here, I just assumed they were pretty common.

Amanda~dog parks ABOUND!  I don't think you can have enough of these, so long as everyone abides by the rules. Bringing your own waterdish--wow you go the extra mile...(I would, too, tho).
