Do I Have to Be Pre-approved Before Looking at Homes for Sale? (Bloomington - Normal IL)

By
Real Estate Agent

As a real estate broker, one of my most important responsibilities is to protect you and your money.

The need for a pre-approval letter prior to looking at homes is important for a couple of reasons. First, what happens if you absolutely fall in love with a home, then find out you don’t qualify to buy it? Also, how will I know what homes to show you if we don’t have a price range to start with? And what about the seller and listing agent who are excited about a showing only to find out it wasn’t a qualified buyer at all?

It really does save a lot of time and heartache. Being prepared and knowing what to expect makes the home search process so much more enjoyable for everyone involved.

If you have any questions about pre-approval or need a list of local lenders, call me and I will answer all of your questions.

It’s a great time to buy and sell in Bloomington Normal! Want to know what’s selling in your neighborhood and for how much? I have all the current market info and would love to talk with you about it.

I never put a buyer in my car without a pre-approval letter in my hand.  This market is difficult enough with one.  A colleague took a couple out to look for a home only to find out their credit scores were 400 and 450 respectively, and they were using multiple names!  Need less to say, they disappeared.

Good luck!

Mary, in our market it is CRITICAL for buyers to have a pre-approval letter before beginning the process. Great advice!

Hi Mary, Yes, it's a must! Many people do not understand how critical it is and just want to look at homes. Preparation is key, however, to look in the right price range and to be ready to make an offer when the perfect one comes along.

Mary,

ABSOLUTELY!!!!!!!!  We are truly spinning the Buyer's, a Sellers, the Sellers Agent and our wheels if not pre-approved.....there is no upside.
