Have you tried going to the post office to submit your paperwork for a passport?  I recently had a great experience getting our passport for our daughter for an upcoming Carribbean cruise.  We needed a passport photo so we went to the local Walgreens at the corner of W. Lake Houston and Fm 1960 E.  There was no wait for the photo with exception of the processing that only took 10 minutes.  From the Walgreens we headed over to the Huffman TX post office located 1 mile north from the intersection of FM 1960 and 2100.  We only waited five minutes for the three people in line in front of us to take care of their business, we were greeted nicely and paperwork quickly processed, and 10 minutes later walked out of the post office with the passport application submitted.  This was much quicker than when my wife and I spent over 2 hours in line at the post office located at the airport.

For passport help and application visit the United States Postal Service website.  It is recommended to have this paperwork completed prior to visiting the Huffman TX post office.  Make sure that you give yourself at least 3 months lead time when submitting the passport application.  The Huffman TX post office mentioned that they were experiencing turn arounds of 3 or less weeks, but recommended not risking a vacation that requires these important documents.
