Last night we watched a young catcher play his heart out.
The opposing team was playing better than our team was. All our at bat time just did not quite connect. The hits that were achieved were caught or did not allow runs to be scored.
For this team that had become quite accustomed to winning, this was a tough place to be.
The catcher worked hard. His efforts did not result in the runners being out.
At one point after three previous runners being ruled safe after this young man catching the ball and tagging the runner, he looked really discouraged.
He kept on trying and the next runner sliding into home knocked the ball out of his glove . To make things worse the catcher then lost his balance and fell on the successful runner.
The expression on the face of the catcher , as far as the mask would allow us to see, was extreme displeasure.
It was then that most of us wished we could give him a hug and make the unhappiness go away.
This was one of those times when there was nothing anyone could do or say that would make the series of events change.
We have all had days like this. We use everything we have learned, do the best we can and the result is failure.
None of us like this.
We have two choices at those times. We can indulge in self pity, or we can pick ourselves up and go on to the next opportunity.
When we catch ourselves falling into the self pity pit, it helps to surround ourselves with people who have had similar struggles and survived.
It also helps when we demand more effort and stamina of ourselves even when we do not feel motivated to do so.
To allow anything less will result in setbacks or the beginnings of losing attitudes.
Attitude is the only thing we can truly control in this life! Make yours one of winning in all you do.
If you catch some bad times, throw them out!
