Question for the Active Rain Community

I've been thinking about doing a series of blogs on Child Safety. In these blogs I want to reintroduce you to children who were lost (and some found) to Predators. I plan on using words like "sexual molestation, sodomy, murder and decapitation". I want to frighten, no, I want to scare you. At the end of each blog I will add links to resourceful websites or advice on how to keep your child or even yourself safe. Before I do all this, I would like to know how well this would be received in the Active Rain Community.  Please let me know with your comments what you think of this. Once you read my last blog, you will understand why I wanted to do this series.

Here is a hint that will help both you and your teenager that drives and has a cell phone:

When leaving your office, the mall, your home, any building... and walking to your car, how often are your keys still in your purse/pocket and you have your cell phone to your ear? How long once you get to your car does it take you to retrieve your keys, find the correct one (if you don't have a keyless entry) and open that door while still on the phone? How much attention were you paying to your surroundings during this walk to your car? (or even from the car to the building) In the time it took me to type this, you could have been robbed, or worse kidnapped.

Please finish your cell phone conversation before stepping out of the building, have your door key ready and BE AWARE of your surroundings at ALL TIMES. The life you save WILL BE YOUR OWN.

Lysa, I think it's an excellent idea for a blog series. It's a very important issue, it's pertinent to what we do and it needs to be shared. Go for it!!

Thank you all for such quick positive responses. I have a 9 month old grandbaby myself, while raising her mother, I didn't worry about her safety in the home, I took it for granted, and I am blessed to have both in my life today. I'll begin working on the series this weekend.

I would love to have someone 'live' on a cell phone if I was entering a dangerous situation.  I can understand the 'distracton' aspect..... but isn't there an upside?

Hi Rob, Wow, that is a very good point, and one I've not thought of. Perhaps a discussion can be started about this? Thank you for bringing this up.

I don't think that its a topic that you can talk about enough. Dateline has made it very clear with their to catch a predator series.....how many are they up to now?  And STILL are catching a ton of these creeps?  I say absolutely post it. -Charles
