How long does an agent stay in the business

By
Real Estate Agent with AVALAR Pro Realty
The other day I was talking to my family during Christmas family small talk. My mom asked the question how long does the average agent stau in the business. That was a question I couldn't answer.Does anyone know the answer?? In our market most agents get in and out really fast. Then the agents that stay in the business live and sleep the business. So share with me your market.

The number that I hear most often is 85% of all new licensees are inactive after 4 years. Since the numbers are so overwhelmingly unfavorable I do not think NAR releases statistics. The information was presented at a Craig Proctor conference in November of 07 and I have heard it from RE trainers I have spoken with as well.

I think the best way to analyze your particular market is to check with the state licensing authority to find out how many agents renew their licenses. I'm betting you'll find at least half to 75% of them don't make it past their first licensing period.
