Realtors are dropping like flies!

By
Real Estate Agent with Security National Properties

As some of you may know, it's about that time to renew with many local boards to keep practicing for another year. Unfortunately for some, they may not be able to practice again Many Boards are reporting a lower than average renewal rate and many are just dropping out of real estate all together.

It's definitely possible to perservere! There used to be a time where a highway patrolman would pull you over and ask you for you license, registration and real estate license. Just because everyone had one!

As stated in my earler blogs, now is the time to get as much inventory as possible. Call those expired and FSBO's! These are the people that need our help the most. I picked up two expireds today because their agents are no longer in the business.

Find a way to stand out. I found out how to use video e-mail with a power point CMA embedded in the body. There isn't anyone out here that uses this kind of technology.

ok, now I'm just blabbering. There are just too many ways to be the best in your town. Don't give up. Perservere.

John ~ Its A-OK to loose a few! Especially the ones who just got in the business to make a quick buck and not to give clients long term service! Our reputation as a profession goes up in the mean time, I say!

Great post and I sure hope you are willing to share with me (I'm in California but in another area from you) I'd like to know how to do the CMA Powerpoint video presentation.  Email it to me if you are willing to share.  I read today that 300+ agents lost their broker in Arizona.  When my last company folded all of a sudden I felt it only affected me and my daughter.  I can see now that it can happen at any time anywhere and to a larger number of agents.  My heart goes out to them.

Happy New Year.

John,

I agree with Brian. These are times that separate the men (and women) from the boys and I've actually never been more excited about the business.

John,

You are committing two crimes. You are shooting yourself in the foot, as if the agents were not leaving, you would not be able to get those two listings, so you might have to leave... Life without parole.

Second, how come, guys, you are stealing our joke? It is in Florida the police may ask you for a Real Estate License, how come you do the same thing in California? That's a death sentence, man.

Realtors are not the only ones dropping like flies. Home inspectors in my area are too. There are several that have been in business for years going under.  Funny thing though - the market is not that bad here.

It is a market correction.  many should have not been in the business in the first place.  Let the climate improve, they will come back.  That is what this business does not need, people in the business only for the money.

Funny, how it takes market correction to get rid of bad apples.

JF,

Survival is the name of the game!

Sure many will fall, in truth some never should have been in our profession in the first place.

There seems to be an overwhelming desire to want to know more about the video/CMA  PLEASE SHARE!  Worthy of its own post for sure.  As for the drop outs we needed to thin the herd.

Survival the only difference I see from other turn downs is we are losing good agents not just the ones that were hanging on.

I am on my 4th version of a power-point CMA most of my presentation is Marketing and web information and the CMA portion is separate.

Good for you John, serious agents will have 40 listings in hand by the end of Feb, and will quit begging sellers to renew at the higher prices. Agents could have stayed in longer if the "industry" did not perpetuate the myth that spending more on advertising would sell a home. That will be the next big story, if someone will print it...agents refusing to go broke advertising homes that won't sell..This is going to be a big feather in the cap for all the Boards and the MLS

John, we're down to under 10K in our Northern Virginia association from about 16K Realtors about 2 years ago.  It will be interesting to see if there is a further reduction over the next year.

JOHN-

Every cycle these people come in and absolutely train-wreck our business.  I personally think that to join as association of Realtors a person should have to pay five years of dues up front, and then pay each year thereafter.

So if they followed my proposed program, everyone would always have a five year membership remaining before they could resign.

If they let their license expire during that period, their Realtor membership would become inactive but there would be no refund.

Those of us who are dedicated professionals do not owe one bit of professional consideration to those who intend to be nothing more than real estate carpetbaggers.

John,

The tough market has definitely thinned agent ranks and loan originator ranks. It leaves the field wider for those who are creative and industrious and just hang in there despite all the challenges.
