Bonita Springs: A former quaint little fishing town, turned bustling city.  Through the years we've watched it change and mold itself into a destination of choice for families, businesses and retirees.

One of the original landmarks that people use to come to Bonita Springs for was the spring.  Sounds glamorous, but it's a sulfer spring and smells like eggs.  It was rumored to have medicinal purposes.  It's actually how Bonita Springs got it's name, for the springs.  It's original name was Survey.  Why?  The survey crew that originally graphed the state slept at a camp by the river.  Uh, and this was before anyone invented "Off" mosquito repellant.  The state bird of Florida is, in fact, the mosquito.

Through the years residents have watched as a few landmarks and attactions were consumed by development.  For example:  The Dome, a roadsite souvenir shop, turned dive bar, turned 7-11 convenience store.

Chucks Poorhouse, a classic, old town, beachfront restaurant is now a parking lot.  The tourism demanded it, the county put it in.

We still have one little landmark holding on.  When you're leaving Bonita Beach and return east toward US 41, it's on your right.  In the past, do-gooders have tried to force the owners to change the name, control it's presence and stifle it's souvenir sales.  No deal!  The tackle store lives on!  According to the bumper stickers they sell, "You Can't Beat Their Bait."

Freedom of speach is alive and well in Bonita Springs, Florida.

Way!  The funny part is I lived only a few blocks away on a canal.  My boy twin would fish from the dock all the time and would at any give time say "Mom, can you take me to Master Bait." (to buy bait shrimp)  and I'd say, "AND TACKLE".

We'd be at the grocery, and he'd ask to stop on the way home, etc.  One of the MANY times my kids humbled me.  I eventually realized the otters were bank robbing the bait bucket that was floating off the dock.  I later learned that fish will bite on frozen cocktail shrimp and we switched to that.  I treat my fish right!  Why not, the otters eat well.

Chris: This REALLY deserves a comment...but for my part, I'll pass on the opportunity.

No comment to anyone, especially Marc's last comment.  But I will say Chris sounds like she knows her stuff when it comes to bait... so does that make her a Master?

I was waiting for the pervs to enter the room.  Nice trenchcoats.  Are they Garanimals?

Who are you calling a perv?  I just simply stated that you must know what you are doing when it comes to bait when you go fishing.  I don't know anything about bait.  I just know that fishing requires putting bait or a lurer on the end of a line and waiting patiently for hours on end.  I do know that certain types of fishing require certain types of bait, but don't ask me what those are.  Let's just say that fishing for me is golf for you.

You just need to try harder, J.  Bait your line and take a long walk, there's a short pier around here somewhere, I'm sure.

I'll let you bait the line and cast while I take the walk along the shore to the nearest golf course.  I will play a round and when I get back, I will reel in the boot that I caught.

Where is TLW?  She must have fallen out of her chair laughing and broken both wrists, otherwise I'm sure there'd be some interesting comments on this one.

I grew up in Heber Springs, Arkansas, also named after its sulphur springs.  Residents still consume the "medicinal" nastiness from the seven springs (pictured).

Ta Da...TLW found it. LOL. :)

Okay. I know this place and it is GROSS. People actually drink the water and believe with all their heart that this egg water will heal whatever ailes them.

I have not been in Florida all my life so the first time Broker Bryant took me to Bonita Springs I was shocked that people were lined up with milk jugs to take egg water home. Pretty damn weird if you ask me. I wonder if the egg water makes the folks that drink it smell like eggs?

Now on to the Master Bait. Well, I am not so sure I should go there. :)

This is actually a consumer post. I better Master Bait elsewhere. Oops. Should I delete that?

Wink Wink. LOL.

TLW...ROAR!

Thanks for the laugh, I needed it today.

I was thinking the Master Bait and Tackle would make a great t-shirt.
