Well, 2007 has been interesting, to say the least. There have been a lot of changes in real estate in general and, specifically, some industry professionals have decided to throw in the towel--but not everyone will! So, I just wanted to share with you what a teacher in a graduate class shared with me. She made us students at the time buy a book for her class called "Crisis," with the Chinese character for the word "crisis." Of course, we wrote a lot of papers about what was contained within that book--specifically, how to deal with a crisis or a problem. The left-most character (below) was emblazoned on the front of the book.

The right-hand character (above) is the Chinese chracter for danger or "opportunity." So, think about it--crisis AND opportunity. These two Chinese characters can mean crisis, opportunity, danger--all those things. So, any CHANGE is going to offer those things--it's just a matter of how you look at it. For instance, you can look at 2007 and say--"Oh, the market was bad." Or you can say, "Oh, the market was the market. I had to prospect a LOT more to reach my goals." Once you get to the change EVENT (the CRISIS), your perceptions and how you respond to it make that change event/crisis either a 1. Danger or an 2. Oppotunity.
So, for 2008, when some problem occurs--and it will!--are you going to look at it as a problem/danger or an opportunity to learn a new skill or drag out an old skill you haven't used since before the "good ole' days?!" I hope you choose to see opptunities rather than obstacles. Hang in there.

It is amazing how many people I had in my contact list that have dropped out of all angles of "the business". A lot of it had to do with them not having enough money to renew their licenses and memberships! This, to me, is crazy. I mean, last year was pretty bad for me, but I still did better than I would have at one of those "regular jobs". I can't imagine bailing out on my career. But it's good for us that have been in it a long time, and are staying in it. I say "good riddance" to those who have flooded this market.
You know though, when it gets better, they'll be back.
Here's to a great 2008!
