Huck Finn Fishing Day - Reminiscing The Days Of Our Youth - Teach A Youth To Fish

Remember what it was like to be a child when we were growing up ..... life was much simpler back then we did not have all the electronic gadgetry that today's youth have. We played out doors more and found our fun in the things that nature provided for us. Simple things like climbing a tree to catching tadpoles in the local pond kept us busy for hours.

Today's electronically oriented youth are missing out on many of the pleasures enjoyed by youth just one generation ago but thanks to Canadian Tire fishing is not one of them as this Uxbridge Youth Fishing Event returns to Elgin Pond on Saturday April 28th, 2012

Once again Uxbridge is blessed with the generosity of local businesses and organizations as The Huck Finn Fishing Day Returns to Elgin Pond, complete with the Huck Finn Dress Up Contest and Parade,

I suspect Huck Finn would have had no difficulty doing all of the things on the National Trusts list of 50 things a child should do before the age of 12.

 Youth Fishing

"Research has shown it is important for children to have a love of nature" ..... UK Publication Mail Online

The Parade Starts at Elgin Park at 9:00am with fishing after the parade until 2:00pm

Simply show up and register to receive

    • free lunch
    • free bait
    • loaner fishing gear

Once again the lack of fishing gear is not an issues as the Pickering Rod and Gun Club will be on hand to generously lend it to anyone aged 15 and under. Fish cleaning and bait will also be provided at the event.

Elgin Pond will be stocked on Tuesday and the pond will be closed for fishing until Saturday

Huck Finn Day is generously sponsored by Canadian Tire, and is supported by a number of other local businesses and organizations.

Remembering that face to face experiences are so very important. I am into social media, but it can never take the place of sitting together and talking.

I am not into fishing, but remembering fun experiences I had as a kid certainly is meaningful. Have a great day!

Hi Kathy, I think it's wonderful to get the kids out, and fishing teaches a child many things - skills, patience, survival, living in harmony....and getting them out to play. Hope your neighbhorhood have lots of fun this Sat:-)

The hatcher up at Mount Shasta sometimes does fishing derbies for kids to get rid of excess stock.  Great post.

Kathy,

Everybody deserves to have a Huck Finn Fishing day. Oh how I love the great outdoors. Your photo is great! There's nothing more important to a child than discovery. Touch a frog, not a button. See, smell, touch, experience the five senses. Huck Finn had the right idea. I hope the event will be well attended. Sounds like a great event for kids of ALL ages.
