California Railroad Museum

At the edge of Old Sacramento, sits a California state treasure.  It is the California State Railroad Museum, an outstanding attraction for Sacramento visitors and citizens alike.

Annually, the museum has a calendar of events to peak the interest of folks of all ages.

However, for photographers out there, the Railroad Museum provides a great opportunity to capture powerful images of our historic railroad past.

On Friday evening, May 4th from 5:30 – 8:30 p.m. amateur photographers can select and attend the fast-paced and information-packed lighting seminar.  And on Saturday morning, May 5th from 7:00 a.m. – 9:30 a.m., a “bring your own tripod” seminar is scheduled.  Amateur photographers can attend one or both of these events, which will be conducted by former Sacramento Bee photographer, and Canon USA consultant, Dave Henry.

The event is limited to 50 participants. And advance registration for "Trains & Tripods" is required. The cost is $35 per day or $60 for those interested in both activities. All photographers are required to sign a release of liability and a "not for commercial use" clause. If you have questions please call 916-445-7373.

Hi Myrl, The Train Museum, allthough I have never been there is one of my favorites that you have posted. The photos are great and I feel like I have truly been there. This event is wonderful and if I lived closer we would be attending this one together.

That's a great idea. I've been to that train museum and have some good pictures but tips would have helped.

Larry - The museum is a real kid magnet.  The funny thing is I hadn't seen it that way before I actually visited.  But the design of the museum and the exhibits are extraordinary!

Gary - I can imagine this event to be a very worthwhile opportunity.

Juli - For those who like trains and are into photography, I suspect a lot will be learned and enjoyed!

William - That would be a great event to enjoy together.  Perhaps one of these days.  The Railroad Museum hosts these events periodically.

Rob - I find that any little event like this one provides an opportunity to pick up a few tips I wouldn't have otherwise learned.

Laura - I can imagine that living in New York City as you do, there are a tremendous amount of similar activities.

Myrl,

Everybody loves old trains. Combining that with photography makes it a winning combination.

Myrl,

WOW! I wish I could be there to see it; however, the photos are so good, I feel like I'm already there! These trains inspire me, just like you do!

You make us all jump aboard and have a good time!

That is pretty awesome. We attended a 'train exhibit' in California once. Dont recall where, it was several years ago. They let us walk through many of them and it was so interesting to see the changes made over the years. My fav pic of yours is the one where the little girl is trying to get the cat off the roof. I like when its not just the train, but an actual setting.

That truly is a treasure, Myrl. My husband and I are train crazy (along with a few other crazies, but I digress) and would so enjoy seeing this. Loved your slide show. I'm going to let Craig see it now too--aren't I nice?

Hey, who is gonna get the poor little kitty off the roof. Oh, wait . . . I don't know if I've ever gone in there or just played around with the toys in the visitor's shop. Actually, the hardware store is my favorite in Old Sacramento. That and the candy store.
