31 Comments on You're Going To Need Some Things For Your New Home!
And I won't go into it. I've already been kicked off here once.
LOL! We've already seen a picture of your southern end from a past blog post, we'll leave it at that.
I was going to say something but I forgot. I am laughing too hard about the TP:)
So many people have no idea what's needed once they purchase a home until they've already moved in.........excellent list to get them started and better prepared.
Conrad, Then our work here is done! :)
Roger, There's certainly a lot more required than apartment living isn't there?
Bliz - Great list. I think you nailed it too by putting changing the locks first. This is something I tell all my buyers, especially here with all the bank owned homes you never know who has a key for your new house.
Great list, but don't buy any of it until AFTER you close on the purchase and the loan is funded.
Jim, It's definitely one of those "you just never know categories", ESPECIALLY with foreclosures!
Kathy, True, no major purchases that'll jack up the loan capabilities! But a few small cash purchases like handtools are probably okay, they can use the cash they keep under the mattress :)
Great list. It takes a lot of money to set up house these days. Fortunately Craigslist is here. It wasn't around when I needed a helping hand years ago.
Kay, Between Craigslist, Goodwill shops and the like, many of these items can be obtained pretty cheaply. People can always upgrade later. E.g. my power drill was a $30 Black and Decker before upgrading to a DeWalt a couple of years ago....life is good :)
B&L. What a great list! That's too funny! I'm sure the first thing we bought was a stud finder!
Peg, A good stud finder helps keep a bunch of extra holes out of the wall, and the pictures get to actually stay ON the wall :)
Bliz - I LOVE your list. If I may add to it: here we have community mail boxes. Take your sales contract/HUD 1 to your local post office and get that lock changed. You don't want a previous tenant or homeowner to steal your mail.
As an agent, my housewarming gift is simple: A basket of "must have move in day things" - TP, paper towels, new kitchen towels, glass and bathroom cleaners along with some granola bars and water. I "sneak" into the home before I hand over the keys and put this basket with a HUGE bow in a very prominent spot. It's a small thing, but ALWAYS appropriate. And, no, that's not the only gift, just a little housewarming to start off the move correctly.
This is a very good list of things new homeowners will need to get. It's always such a shocker when you need something and didn't think about it. I remember a long time ago finding out that I needed a toilet plunger and didn't have one lol :)!
By the way, not sure if anyone mentioned it above...fire extinguisher...one for the kitchen area and one for the garage area for different types of flames...extremely important!!
Juli, Another valid thing to look for. We don't have too many community mailbox areas here, but some developments do. And that's a great housewarming gift you leave :)
Brenda, Fire extinguishers would also be great!
Christine, It's taken us a long while to compile all the tools and items we need for our home and land, and every now and then still adding a new specialty tool :)
one of my favorite blogs I have read Bill this makes sense to prepare new homeowners!
Marilyn, There's a lot as actual home owners we all know to expect, but those first timers in particular may not think about. Even if it's just a basic tool set to tighten up a loose screw or hammer in a nail that backs out, nice to have the basics :)
Super list for a new homeowner! Some of those items you never thing about.....especially the tp;)
Erika, There's definitely a lot of things you might not think about until you need them....like tp :)
