6 Comments on Multi Tasking
My advice is to avoid the treadmill, and any other form of working out. Much more can be accomplished by sitting on the couch, TV remote in one hand, beer in another... and it's a lot more fun.
The other day I passed a woman who was weaving all over the road. I thought she was drunk. Turns out she was reading a book AS SHE DROVE DOWN THE ROAD! (I do not recommend this method of multi-tasking either).
I tend to catch up on my reading when I go to bed. The nightstand is piled high and I just plow through it. If you sit open houses, that's a GREAT time to catch up on reading, correspondence and web site work. Sometimes I'm actually anxious to get into an open house now because I know I'll get a lot done.
Another way to catch up on reading is to just quickly browse the publication, tear out the articles you want to read and put them in a folder that you carry with you - for waiting in lines, or in doctor's offices, even when you're on hold on the phone.
When I was learning Japanese I would have 5 characters in large bold print on cards, and review them while stopped at red lights - really took away the stress of the light not being gree.
I multi task constantly. I don't know how to do just one thing at a time. I'll even get on the Gazelle or Ab Lounge or shoot some pool if I'm on a call to a client that is lasting forever...
What I can't ever seem to figure out is when you're supposed to do bathroom breaks in between everything...
I think all realtors multi task, but scheduling time to read or blog has become part of the daytimer. Hiring more support people is also an option.
