Debb(ie) Doesn't Do Dallas - "A River Runs Through It" instead.

Industry Observer with Nature As Neighbors

When I first read about Roger Mucci's contest, "Be the Star of Your Own Movie," my palms started to sweat. I’ve heard enough “Debbie Does Dallas” jokes to last a lifetime. :)

Debbie Does Dallas

Therefore, it took some thought to find the perfect movie to depict my philosophy, lifestyle and Real Estate business.

A River Runs Through It "A River Runs Through It," is about two brothers - not two sisters, which is the A River Runs Through Itstory of my life. In Robert Redford’s version of the Norman MacClean story, one brother eventually self-destructs. However, in my version of the movie, my sister and I are both alive, well, and happy.

What we do share in common with the movie brothers, is a childhood spent fishing and exploring in the great outdoors. My sis still loves A River Runs Through Itto fish, and does so each summer while camping at a lake. I’m not much of a boat fisherman, and prefer instead to stand in a stream with a fly-rod in hand.

Our love affair with nature and the outdoors began long ago, growing up in Alaska. Dad wasn’t a Presbyertian minister as in "A River Runs Through It," but he was an Alaska State Trooper.  We too grew up disciplined, with strong principles and good ethics, and we always knew we were greatly loved.
A River Runs Through It
How could we not? Since Dad didn’t have a son, my sister and I happily took on the role of his outdoor buddies. We mastered life around boats and water, baited hooks and even learned how to properly shoot a gun at an early age. In short, we enjoyed a lot of adventures in the wilderness, and learned a deep love and respect for nature.

Today, I carry my love of nature and the environment into my job as a Real Estate Broker. Technically, I’m called an EcoBroker, which means I can help people live in a more beautiful, comfortable and healthier environment - and save them money. It's actually quite easy to live in harmony with the planet.

"A River Runs Through It" is a story about two brothers and their very different paths in life. However, much of the film depicts their love of fly-fishing and shared experiences in an outdoor-oriented world. The river and fly-fishing become the one place where brothers, and father alike, transcend their differences - it allows them the gift of harmony, albeit temporary.

A River Runs Through It My favorite quotation comes at the end of Norman MacClean’s book, and it pretty much sums it all up.

"A River Runs Through It" - starring Debb Janes.

“Eventually, all things merge into one, and a river runs through it. The river was cut by the world's great flood and runs over rocks from the basement of time. On some of the rocks are timeless raindrops. Under the rocks are the words, and some of the words are theirs. I am haunted by waters.”

Please watch my 1:28 movie trailer, I promise it's a different version of the original movie. Ladies, there will be a few Brad Pitt moments, gentlemen, there will be fishing scenes from Oregon's Deschutes River. No fish were harmed while making this movie. (
Catch and release!

Hi Debb~ Congratulations on your nomination and WIN!  Your gown was beautiful!  You looked stunning!  I enjoyed your movie.  I wish I could watch the trailer, but my wireless always has problems with youtube videos.  I'll have to try to watch it at the office at another time!

Hi Christine, it's a good movie for outdoor scenes and a good story of family dynamics, but it's also a bit sad.

Hi John, thank you kindly.

John M, I went to college in Missoula for a couple of years. Unfortunately, I didn't fly fish at that time and I know I missed some wonderful water. Oh well, I can always visit.

Travis, thanks for the visit.

Donna, Sharon did a fabulous job "dressing me." She was a bit upset that I insisted on wearing my waterproof boots with the gown, as I kept telling her, the dress is so long, nobody will see my feet." :) You can dress the girl up...but?

Lottie, often times that's pretty much what I do...stand in a stream and watch the fish that get away. ;)

Hi there # 82, Thanks for the visit anonymous. Peace to you too.

Margaret, it is I who should be asking for YOUR autograph. :) :)

Janna, you are a kind and gracious lady. Thanks much.

I watched the original movie when it was first released--the story line lost out to the breathtaking scenery--mostly nature but a little Brad Pitt.  :)  I applaud your efforts!

Debb congratulations first of all and I did like your little movie, the rainbow was very beautiful.  I am not a fisherman but my husband is a talented fly fisherman, both he and our son Erik, great hands and instincts. I love that you and your sister are.  Alan says there is nothing better than being on the river, lake whatever and watching the Eagles and Osprey fly overhead.  Again Congrats!
