Making color choices is truly painful!

Taking the Pain out of choosing paint colors by Christopher Muther, Globe Staff, is a great article of how to get rid of that anxiety!  Christopher interviewed David Oliver, a color guru from London, and author of a gorgeous coffee table book:  Paint and Paper:  In Decoration!

You can find the article at  www.boston.com/lifestyle

Some of David's advice:

Test your shade:  'Don't just look at paint colors on a flat surface.  Paint the inside of an old shoe box.  That way you can see where shadows fall or how light behaves with color in a room.

Tart up hidden spaces:  Paint the inside of linen closets and cabinets!

That is a great idea, I never though of a shoe box, I have always painted a small spot on a wall or board.

Take care!

Great idea about the shoe box! I have NO training in color, other than when I was in art school a couple of decades ago. I helped a friend choose colors for her dining room, master bedroom and bath. She was thrilled with the result. So, I decided to take on a paying client. I met with her, got a good look at her home, and made my recommendation. She said the color I chose for her family room looked like baby poop!  We came up with a color more to her liking and she said she would have her husband paint and call me when it was done. I never heard back from her, even after leaving messages with her husband (who told me NO painting had ever been done). I decided I had no expertise in that area, and took it off my list of services!!! ;)

Margaret, I love working with color but only know it from a Feng Shui perspective.  And I didn't know about the shoebox, just to check it before you paint at different times of the day to see how it looks in all lights.  I need to find out more about color because I work with it often and love to use a variety.  Thank you for the article.

Robert -  I have painted on the giant square also - the shoebox takes into account the shadows and angles - I am looking forward to trying it.  I will let you know the results.  Thank you for stopping by!

Cindy - thank you!

Elaine - I love your attitude!  Color can be a challenge - So many colors so little time!  Dewey Color really makes it easier!  Thank you for stopping by!

Carole - So good to hear your voice!  Color fits right with Feng Shui!  It is all about the energy!  Thank you Carole!  I would love to learn more about Feng Shui!

Wow! What a great idea, a shoebox! Brilliant. I will have to start saving ALL those show boxes to give to my clients instead of a sheet of poster-board. Thanks for the info ;-)
