Know the area

Real Estate Agent with 1st Choice Real Estate

I am new to the real estate business one year, so I am always learning new things. Last weekend I decided I would stop by a FSBO'S open house, and I had no idea what to expect. I walked in and I was immediately asked if I was looking for a house. I told the seller I am always looking for houses, and introduced myself. When my tour of the home was done the sellers started asking me questions. What I thought of the house, what could they do to sell the house faster. I was then asked if I was familiar with the area I replied that this area is an area I don't normally market. I know they wanted assistance on the price. I later found out they were over priced. So the lesson I learned here was before you start to market an area get to know the area.

Way to go on walking in.  A lot of agents would just drive by.  I occasionally pop in just to see what a buyer on their own can and can not do for themselves.  Usually, the condition and how the home is staged shows whether or not it will move FSBO.

Hey Daniel. I really liked that" I am always looking for houses line?" I mean, you are not lying. We Real Estate Agents are always looking for houses to sell. I honestly believe that if you ask the right questions like "How long has the home been on the market?" and help them with marketing their home by giving them some few pointers, you improve your chances of getting the listing. Why? You are offering to help them sell their home and you are not even the listing agent. They might end up referring you to people looking to buy or sell real estate.
