The Power of Twitter
I haven't spent a whole lot of time using Twitter. I never really got it. Here and there over the past two years (since I created my account) I've occasionally "tweeted." (Is that even the correct term? Are we "tweeters" or "twits"???)
Anyway. I just wrote a blog post about Maine Open House Weekend and the Maine Home Show. For the heck of it I created that short URL link and posted twice on Twitter:
Maine #openhouseweekend April 28, 29
#MaineHomeShow at #Lewsiton #Colisee April 28, 29
Not really thinking much about it, I clicked back onto AR to check my traffic on the blog and to my surprise there were 18 SHORT URL CLICKS.
It had only been 54 seconds.
The power of Twitter, indeed.
I get it.

Go Lisa! You have officially crossed over.
Oh Geez, Lisa, I'm going to have to check this out. I don't tweet (or twit?) either. Maybe once in a blue moon.
Kristen - not sure about the crossed over...I still get a headache thinking about all this SEO stuff...and my Excedrin is almost gone...and I just discovered the Excedrin recall... :D
Terri - you should definitely experiment with it. Certainly doesn't hurt!
I guess I'm going to have to spend some serious time learning all I can about Twitter. Like you I have only fooled around with it occasionally....
Twitter is a tough nut to crack - it's limited to 140 characters, so your tweets (that's the term) must be succinct. It's great, though, for getting across quick ideas: like a new place opening near one of your listings, or a new listing altogether, or that you're having an open house.
Follow your local businesses on twitter and re-tweet (you may see it written RT) their stuff and you may get some of their followers to follow you!
For those of us who don't want to spend all of our time writing newsletters or blogs, twitter is a great tool. Instead of recruiting people to read my infrequent blog postings, I tell people to follow me on twitter. That way, if I do write a blog post, I tweet a summary to my followers and they decide if they want to click to my whole posting. But I can also tweet my followers with other great articles that I think they may like to read, but I can pull from all media sources and other bloggers and just tweet a short description.
I'm glad you are seeing how useful it can be. Thanks for sharing your story.
Exactly Lisa. I post to Twitter not because I read it but after testing I saw that 30% of my post reads come from the short url posts. No brainer after that and it only takes a minute.
Jeanne & Ralph - I'm not sure that it really involves any serious time...just quickly post stuff and go. Oh, and follow others so they will follow you. :D
Dana - thanks for the hint. I'm going to post more often.
Steve (and Jan?) - I wish I'd figured it out sooner. Oh, well...too much to keep up with! :D
Matt Land!!! An "outsider" comment! Thanks for the info.
thank you very much for the informative and interesting post. I get so much out of the active rain network.
Hi Paul - yes, AR is an amazing source for information!
