I believe that everything that happens to us is a result of our intent, part of a larger plan, whether we know it or not. Not too long ago, I was walking through Barnes and Noble on my way to the kids section and happenstanced upon "The Secret" table.

Like of many of you I had purchased both The Secret book and the movie but had difficulty implementing the strategies recommended.

Over the past year I've become a student of the concepts that The Secret teaches. I purchased The Law of Attraction and even subscribe to Michael Mosier's newsletter with some but not great results.

So as I walked by the book table reserved for the teaching of The Secret I perused it as usual. On this day there was a different little book, one I hadn't seen before, a new book, so I picked it up.

Turns out that the book that caught my eye wasn't really a book at all. In fact it's a journal. The journal is designed for you to write down all the things that you are grateful for on a daily basis. There are only about 4 or 5 pages of text in this little book. The text simply explains how to use gratitude to attract of what you want into your life.

Here's how you use it:

Start each day by saying "Thank-You" 20 times.

On one page you'll write down what you are grateful for, those things that you currently have. On the other side of the page you write down thanks for those things that you want to attract into your life, in the present tense.

Since I've been using it I've had one deal close that I hadn't expected to close and I received an unexpected check in the amount of $1,200. Certainly not huge things, but enough to make me take notice. Perhaps the biggest benefit that I've personally derived from using this journal is a sense of calmness and well being. It really is amazing how much more in control I feel. When I catch myself focusing on the negative I now stop and give thanks.

You could create a journal like this for on your own, but there is trulysomething magical, almost spiritual about The Secret Gratitude Journal. It feels like it's meant to hold your communications with god.

I highly recommend it.

Kate-

Love it, love it, love it!!!  I am going to put this little gem of writing in a 'gratitude journal' on my 'goals chalkboard' and I will make it part of my daily regimen this year.

Thank you for sharing positivity and this post!  What a great idea!

Live good. Be happy.

Good idea Kate. It is difficult in the type of business we are in to be thankful for everything. The rude and crazy customers, the unprofessional associates we deal with, and failed escrows, offers and hand-holding can bring out the dark side of our characters. Being thanksful in all things and all seasons if tough but worthwhile in the longrun - especially in this type of business!

Kate,

I'm grateful for your post! :)

I believe that Wayne Dyer was right when he said "You'll See it when you Believe It."   It's the LAW!

Have a GREAT (OR GRATEFUL) New Year!

Kate ~  I am also grateful for your post.    I don't think it was random that I found this today.   There is no doubt it was meant for me to find it.   I will be going to B & N tomorrow to find my own copy.   What a wonderful way to start the New Year.

Best Wishes for your New Year!!!

Mimi, thanks for stopping by.  It is a great idea isn't it.  I like that you have goals chalkboard, been thinking about starting one so that my kids recognize how important goals are.

Robbin, yes it is difficult to be positive in this business, especially after what we have all been through in 2007.  As I said, the biggest benefit that I've received from my gratitude journal is a sense of calmness and well being.  Even if nothing else comes of it, that alone is worth the time I spend on every day.

Eric, Isn't Wayne Dyer wonderful?  I own some of his work and that statement is one that is sometimes hard to comprehend.  The gratitude journal helps!  Thanks for dropping by.

Kate, It's a wonderful idea to write down your Intentions for all you'd like to create and infuse them with Energy.  I'm glad you found this journal and know you'll start to see some wonderful changes.  Many blessings for the New Year!

Linda, Isn't it wonderful when you find a blog on Active Rain that you know was written JUST FOR YOU.  The first time I read your blog was the same experience for me.  Glad that I could return the favor.

Kate ~ I went to Barnes and Noble yesterday and they didn't have this.  So today, I am ordering two through Amazon.  (Thanks for the link)   One for me and one for a very dear friend who I know will really enjoy this.  I am so looking forward to getting it.    But I am going to start writing down today anyway, and will pick up with the journal when it arrives.   Thanks Kate!

Linda, you are welcome.  Must be a popular book for the new year.  I'm actually going to buy a few of these as gifts myself.  Keep me posted on your progress.

Happy New Year.

True.  When you write almost anything down you either appriciate it more or it impacts you more.  The law of attraction is a powerful force.

thank you...it takes a little practice, but an attitude of gratitude helps you to pick your battles and appreciate the blessings...writing them down, I think, reinforces your thought process!

Kate   I am most excited.   My Gratitude Book arrived in the mail yesterday.  I have an extra to give to someone special.  But I took some quiet time yesterday afternoon to fully embrace its principles and have had some quiet time already this morning, without interruption to contemplate those things that I am truly grateful for and those things that are present and there for me.   First thing today, I am grateful for this post which inspired me to get myself a copy and begin my own conscious awareness of all those things that I have to be grateful for.    Thank you.   May your day unfold with all its possibilities.

Beth, you are absolutely right.  I so appreciate running across you in Active Rain.  Your thoughts, your blogs and your enthusiasm inspire me.  Thanks!

Linda, this is sooo kewl.  For me there is something spiritual about this process, I hope that you find it as helpful as it has been for me.  Since using this journal, I can literally turn any negative thoughts around by simply - Thank You For.... (sometimes it takes 20 or more thank you's but it always works).

I'm really grateful that you shared this with me, it makes me smile and feel as if I've made a small difference.  I felt a kinship with you the first time I read your blog.  Thanks for sharing yourself with the Active Rain community.

Kate ~ Indeed, there is something spiritual about it.   I am working on the thank yous already throughout the past few days -especially in light of the fact that I am a Loan Officer with Countrywide and the news that has rippled throughout.   In the end, I KNOW It will all be okay, we deal with change and we move forward.  But having things like this Grattitude Book came at the most perfect time for me.   As I said earlier, I know that post was sitting there waiting for me (and I am sure many others)

Yes, you have made a differece and I dare say more than just a small one for me and many others as it is clear you have a wonderful following on here.   You were one of the earliest blogs I subcribed to here, because I felt a similar kinship when I started reading your posts.

When I first came to AR, the last thing I ever expeceted was to find so many wonderful people who share so much from their heart.  It is in those personal stories that we find our own humanity, humbleness and potential.

Keep up your good work Kate.

Thank you for the post, we follow The Secret as well and agree that an attitude of gratitude is so important. It's nice to hear about the positive results you are having.

Hi Kate - I am back from my travels and will post about that later.   It's just finding the time.   Re-entry has been brutal as there is so much to catch up on and I still have my head in the clouds from all that I experienced while away.... ahhh back to real life.... anyway, in the meantime, I am still writing my gratetude journal and BJ's had the Secret for $13... picked up three, one for me, one for my daughter and an extra that I know will find a home.

It's amazing how many people I am running into now who are reading and working the secret with amazing results!

Jeff, I will surely be looking up your suggetions as well.   I believe we are in a new age of awareness.   It's forums like this that really allows us to spread the word.   Thanks!

Hey Kate - Great job!  True gratitude is the way to live.  No matter the storm (yes, they still come), you know the calm will soon come, and sun will shine even brighter than before.

Kate...I agree that gratitude is so important.  We are unlikely to recieve more in life if we can not at least feel grateful for all that we have.  Great post:-)

We always need to focus on what we are thankful for because we all have a lot if we will just take the time to see what we have!

Hi Kate ~

after a long absence from the Rain, I am back and must say that this post really stuck with me in my break from here.   I continue to keep my Gratitude Journal (don't write every day) but carry that gratitude in my heart always and my awareness of the things to be grateful for always prevail.   Great to see this resurface again.   In this climate, more than ever we need to look toward those things that are good and remind us of all that we have that is truly important!
