The basement at 3214 Radiance, Louisville KY is a blank canvass. Steve Dobbs and his wife let their imagination go to work held in check somewhat by their pocketbook. We had seen the next door neighbor’s basement in Highgate Springs and received a couple of good ideas. The first was to add a full bathroom using ceramic tile on the shower and ceramic tile on the walls around the bathtub. The basement bathroom is actually going to be larger than the main floor bathroom. Here is a shot of the full bathroom that we are adding. The 6” vertical pipe to the left is our backwater preventer valve. On another note, we are getting permits as we go along. We want to make sure that we are doing this right.
The second was to modify the wood walls and to use them as wainscoting with drywall above. We felt that it would have an airy appearance with the light reflecting off the drywall. We have 2 windows in this area and want to make full use of the natural lighting. In this picture, you can see the open family room area of the basement.
The third idea was to add a bedroom for guests complete with a closet. ANSI standards won’t let us declare it as a bedroom, but the new owners can use if for what they see fit. It will be located to the left of the stairway.
The fourth idea was to spiff up the laundry room by adding drywall and painting the floor. As you can see from this original picture, it needs a lot of clean-up. Our thoughts are for this laundry area to be as inviting as a laundry area in the basement can be. We will have natural light from a window couple with a large fluorescent light fixture.
