Hi Everyone,

Normally I post on SEO tips and techniques, but I thought I would change things up a bit today and write a post for those of you who have embraced the IPAD for your day to day business.

I will try to keep this post reasonably short, so if anyone needs to know the technical issues involved in doing this, you will have to contact me directly either via email or just call me.

Ok, the fun begins...

Many of us ran out and bought the new IPADs when they came out only to say "Ok, what do I do with it?"
Some of you may already know what I am going, and some may not, so I will ask a few simple questions:

Ok, YES, YES, and YES... These are all pictures of my IPAD..

Here is the solution..

I manage technology for a trucking company about 30 miles north of Omaha, NE. In my capacity I have many team members who travel constantly, and they have been extremely hard on the laptop machines I have set them up with. I grew tired of replacing machines and dealing with complaints from staff who felt their 9 pound laptop was too heavy to lug around. Here is the solution I came up with..

Since I manage multiple VMWare Servers already in the organization, I setup a system to migrate their desktop machines into Virtual Machines. I then enabled RDP protocol on the Virtuals, and give them an address to log into.
I then purchased IPADs for all our travelers and put a RDP client on the IPAD. The IPADs can log into the Virtuals and run any software installed on them. You can get a RDP client for your IPAD in the IPAD Store.

You can do the same without using VMWare.
Operating systems that will support this are the following:

Windows XP Pro
Windows 2003 Server
Windows Vista Business
Windows 7 Pro/Business

Joe I love my ipad and am so glad i got one. I can't imagine not having it for business anymore. It's all I carry with me. I can do anything I need from it. And....now I see there is yet more to be done. Great ideas!

Morning Joe it sounds like the I-pad will make the laptop a dinosaur within 10 years what do you think? The problem I have it my MLS Exchange will not recognize anything other than Windows(R). Anyway to get around it?

Hi Joe: I have no idea what the VM stuff is, but I can use Photoshop on my iPhone and iPad... and google docs covers pretty much all I need in documents and spreadsheets. But I have not not set up outlook on my iPad. So I guess I have homework to do too! ☺ Thanks!!

Thanks for commenting... You don't need the VMWare to do this, but it makes it easier. What you do is setup a regular windows computer on your network with Windows XP Pro, or Windows 7 Pro. You then get a RDP client for your IPAD the best RDP client I have found is called "Jump" it costs $20.00 in the apple store. There are some free ones in there also. Then you use the RDP on your IPAD to connect to your desktop. Then everything on your desktop computer can be run on the IPAD (via the RDP client).. Have a great weekend!
