Have you ever thought about what motivation actually is? If we break the word down as we were taught in grammar school...'the act of having a motive'! OK, if you don't like my definition, let's try the dictionary ( In the good old days I often told my employees there are three important books in this office...the Bible, the Dictionary, and the Telephone Book )! So Webster defines the root, 'motive', as "an inner drive, impulse, etc. that causes one to act in a certain way; incentive; goal".
Let's reflect on that a minute...kind of let it sink in...at the core of our very being is the question that each of us needs to answer...some address it openly, honestly, and realistically, others tend to circle around the issue, and some others choose to bury or ignore the entire idea! But the question within each one of us is "Who Am I"? Who...Am...I...before you jump ahead into some para psychological state, relax, and let that question sink in!
I have known literally thousands of people in my lifetime...each individual has had a marked impression on me and how I answer that question...some have had a very profound effect, while others have had a more casual and less influencing aspect on "who I am"!
But in every case our 'data banks' are sophisticated enough to absorb everything with which they come into contact!
The deeper we're able to go to our core or center, the more profound an impact we will discover. Are you beginning to get a handle on the definition of motivation yet? How deep are you willing to go??? The only hindrance to going as deep as you can, is FEAR! We need to work on removing our fears one obstacle at a time.
There's an old but true adage, "God doesn't make junk"! We are all children of God...brothers and sisters of His family! Start there...begin to believe that! Then make attempts to journey into the core of your being...That's the ultimate motivation...And holding his hand, we have nothing to fear!
We were all created for love and by love. Not the sensual love, the noun, the feeling, the emotion, (though there's nothing wrong with that), but the verb 'love'...the action of caring for others needs before our very own...That's the yardstick, the measure of motivation.
Our families, our businesses, our marketplaces, our cultural centers, our worship centers all benefit by people who are willing to address the ultimate question, "Who Am I"! When we successfully address the question "who am I', then we can begin to address the even bigger question "Who Are We" as a people, a nation, and world all desperately in need of healing!!! That is what 'motivation' is all about!
Can I truly and effectively be motivated before I am able to answer that question...can I know where I'm going before I know 'Who I Am'? Make a decision now, and without fear!!!
