That motivated feeling - Top Gun

By
Real Estate Agent with EXP Realty, LLC

This morning I was thinking about one my favorite movies of all time:  Top Gun.   I've always loved the music, the videography, the story itself.  I like this move so much that my cell phone ringer plays the Top Gun Anthem.

This morning, although I may not remember the words exactly, I found myself singing along with Maverick  (http://youtube.com/watch?v=oxnmql4RBN8 )

You've lost that loving feeling,

Oh, oh that loving feeling.

Your trying hard not to show it .....  trees covered in snow

Baby, but, baby

Believe me I know it,

You've lost that loving feeling,

Oh that loving feeling,

You've lost that loving feeling;

Now it's gone, it gone, its gone.

This morning, as I've been reflecting on the past couple of years:  the New Year's resolutions/goals that I set; what I've actually accomplished; what I didn't, I decided that song applies to me, sort of - if I change a few words.  I found myself singing:

You've lost that motivated feeling,

Oh, oh that motivated feeling.

Your trying hard not to show it ---

Baby, but baby

Believe me I know it,

You've lost that motivated feeling, oh that motivated feeling.

Now it's gone, it's gone, gone.

So, what do I do?  I looked at the first 2 of my resolutions/goals (out of 8)

1)      Improve my relationship with the Lord.

2)      Take care of my body (drink more water, exercise, and improve diet)

If we do not take care of our bodies, are we not treasuring something that God has blessed us with?  How well can we take care of our families, friends, business's if we are sick, tired, worn out, or depressed because we don't feel good about ourselves?

Do I have my priorities right?  I'd like to  think so.

I'm firmly convinced that if  I/we, do a better job of taking care of our bodies and our heath, it will impact every other area of our life - to include our motivation.

In the total scheme of things - how hard is it to drink more water?  Instead of a soda or coffee, simply drink a glass of water instead.

How hard is it to eat breakfast?  Hmm.  You simply have to stop, get something out of the refrigerator or cabinet, open your mouth and put food in it and swallow.  .

How hard is it to exercise?    If you think about it, it is simply a matter of getting up and moving.

Then why are we not doing what we should

We are not truly committed to changing our habits.  If we  will commit to changing, we will find motivation all around us.  Then it becomes a matter of just doing it.

I humbly ask that you pray for me to find the strength to make the changes in my life that I know that I need to make.  I will do the same for you, if you need me to.  Thanks in advance.   Sondra

"Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from god?....Therefore honor God with your body."

1st Corinthians 6:19-20

p.s.  I fully realize that bar scenes in Top Gun may not be a perfect example of great Christian behavior.  However, I think the movie is part of our culture.  The scene ended well....she didn't go home with him.  He didn't get drunk...so.... Personally, I like the overall theme of wanting to be the best in your field.  Of smart women.  Of love.  Of friendship.  The guy that posted the clip on YouTube is working on an experiment to keep dreams alive.    I'm a dreamer, so.... May your life be filled with grace and peace.

Sondra,

Thank-you for the reminders. I love the Lord with all my heart and want to serve him each and everyday. If I didn't have the Lord helping me I believe I would be scared of the real estate market in the new year.

I plan to share your comments with my staff also.

LOVE TOP GUN!  LOVE HIS MOTIVATION.  THINK CRUISE WAS A CUTIE IN THAT MOVIE....WELL IN EVERY MOVIE HE DOES.

DO WHAT I DO....GET UP AND IMMEDIATELY DRINK A GLASS OF WATER,  THEN I GO TO THE TREADMILL WITH MY LAPTOP AND I SURF ACTIVE RAIN WHILE I WALK, AND JUST DON'T BUY ANYTHING UNHEALTHY TO EAT!

GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR RESOLUTIONS!  I MADE MINE TODAY.  HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Top Gun was my oldest son's favorite, he's 34 now. I can't tell you how many times he watched that movie!

Those two resolutions are very noble. We can never stop improving our relationship with God. And we should always take good care of our body which is the temple of the Holy Spirit!

great post!

See It. Experience It. Live It.

Thank you all for your comments.

Mike  I'm so glad that we've got the Lord on our side.  I hope you and your staff have a great new year.

Alex  I'm glad that I'm not the only one that sees that movie, as being somewhat applicable to life.  The beginning is my favorite scene also.    I hope this upcoming year will be a very blessed one for you.

Deb  I agree with you!  You make everything sound so easy!

Actually, I'm hoping to muster the will power to run some more 5 and 10K's this year like I did two years ago.  If I could run and surf AR at the same time, life would be great.  (I should be running right now, but I'm on AR instead).  Good luck with your resolutions/goals for next year.

Dan  Thank you!  God bless you.

Elizabeth  Thank you, thank you, thank you my sister! God bless you and that wonderful family of yours.

Lindsey Thank you for your comment.  I'm hoping now that I've figured out the "why" I can hopefully keep myself motivated.  I hope that this new year will be a great and blessed one for you.

Thanks Hugh.   I hope that you have a nice weekend - of what is left of it.  Grace and peace.

Gayle, Thanks for commenting.  I'm glad that you've found things that keep you motivated.  I wish you all of the best this upcoming year.

Armando, Thanks for the positive comments and the affirmation.  I hope you have a very blessed weekend.

Aziz,  Thank your for commenting.  I was excited to discover that Top Gun works for me.  I also wish you the best in achieving your goals.

Hi Sondra -- somehow I missed this entirely.  You poured it out, Sister.  Top Gun was definitely an adrenalin rush; so why not resolutions that are an adrenalin rush.  You've touched on them ever so slightly.  Let me borrow a theme my husband, Dr. John, preaches about prayer, by borrowing from the post in your prayer:

"Father, I thank you for giving me I humbly ask that you pray for me to find the strength to make the changes in my life that will bring me closer to you, and closer to those changes I know that I need to make.  I will do the same for you, if you need me to.  Thanks in advance.   Thank you for answering my prayers and lifting me closer to success each day.  in Jesus' name I pray.  Amen (aka, Sondra)!

You're a wonderful sister to have!
