This morning I was thinking about one my favorite movies of all time: Top Gun. I've always loved the music, the videography, the story itself. I like this move so much that my cell phone ringer plays the Top Gun Anthem.
This morning, although I may not remember the words exactly, I found myself singing along with Maverick (http://youtube.com/watch?v=oxnmql4RBN8 )
You've lost that loving feeling,
Oh, oh that loving feeling.
Your trying hard not to show it .....
Baby, but, baby
Believe me I know it,
You've lost that loving feeling,
Oh that loving feeling,
You've lost that loving feeling;
Now it's gone, it gone, its gone.
This morning, as I've been reflecting on the past couple of years: the New Year's resolutions/goals that I set; what I've actually accomplished; what I didn't, I decided that song applies to me, sort of - if I change a few words. I found myself singing:
You've lost that motivated feeling,
Oh, oh that motivated feeling.
Your trying hard not to show it ---
Baby, but baby
Believe me I know it,
You've lost that motivated feeling, oh that motivated feeling.
Now it's gone, it's gone, gone.
So, what do I do? I looked at the first 2 of my resolutions/goals (out of 8)
1) Improve my relationship with the Lord.
2) Take care of my body (drink more water, exercise, and improve diet)
If we do not take care of our bodies, are we not treasuring something that God has blessed us with? How well can we take care of our families, friends, business's if we are sick, tired, worn out, or depressed because we don't feel good about ourselves?
Do I have my priorities right? I'd like to think so.
I'm firmly convinced that if I/we, do a better job of taking care of our bodies and our heath, it will impact every other area of our life - to include our motivation.
In the total scheme of things - how hard is it to drink more water? Instead of a soda or coffee, simply drink a glass of water instead.
How hard is it to eat breakfast? Hmm. You simply have to stop, get something out of the refrigerator or cabinet, open your mouth and put food in it and swallow. .
How hard is it to exercise? If you think about it, it is simply a matter of getting up and moving.
Then why are we not doing what we should?
We are not truly committed to changing our habits. If we will commit to changing, we will find motivation all around us. Then it becomes a matter of just doing it.
I humbly ask that you pray for me to find the strength to make the changes in my life that I know that I need to make. I will do the same for you, if you need me to. Thanks in advance. Sondra
"Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from god?....Therefore honor God with your body."
1st Corinthians 6:19-20
p.s. I fully realize that bar scenes in Top Gun may not be a perfect example of great Christian behavior. However, I think the movie is part of our culture. The scene ended well....she didn't go home with him. He didn't get drunk...so.... Personally, I like the overall theme of wanting to be the best in your field. Of smart women. Of love. Of friendship. The guy that posted the clip on YouTube is working on an experiment to keep dreams alive. I'm a dreamer, so.... May your life be filled with grace and peace.
