Jasper, Indiana, is located in Bainbridge Township in the center of Dubois County. Surrounded by scenic, rolling hills and wooded forests of Southern Indiana, Jasper is located 122 miles south of Indianapolis, 55 miles northeast of Evansville and 79 miles west of Louisville, Kentucky.
Jasper is a small town in southwestern Indiana approximately 12,500 folks call home. Jasper is known for its German Catholic ancestral roots and high number of wood-making artisans and companies, Jasper has been called the "Wood Capital of the World."
Jasper is a regional center of southwest Indiana and is the county seat of Dubois County (and has been since 1830). The Dubois County Courthouse is the centerpiece to beautiful downtown Jasper. The city name of "Jasper" is from the Book of Revelation, Chapter 21, Verse 19, "And the foundations of the wall of the city were adorned with all manner of precious stones. The first foundation was JASPER."
Jasper is a great place to live. For active citizens, Jasper offers 4 golf courses, a community swimming pool and a great park system with walking tracks, basketball, tennis, and volleyball courts.
Housing is varied in Jasper. Renters have many options including apartments, condominiums and townhouse that are generally very well maintained. Homes in Jasper range from mobile housing lots to million dollar mansions. Overall, housing is very affordable compared to the nation as a whole.
