Looks like the bad news in the media isn't stopping those interested in pursuing a real estate career. Just be ready to handle the new toechnology that is defining today's top agents - According to the US Dept. of Labor "Employment of real estate brokers and sales agents is expected to grow 11% during the 2006-16 projection decade about as fast as the average for all occupations. Relatively low interest rates and the perception that real estate usually is a good investment may continue to stimulate sales of real estate, resulting in the need for more agents and brokers. However, job growth will be somewhat limited by the increasing use of technology, which is improving the productivity of agents and brokers. For example, prospective customers often can perform their own searches for properties that meet their criteria by accessing real estate information on the Internet. The increasing use of technology is likely to be more detrimental to part-time or temporary real estate agents than to full-time agents because part-time agents generally are not able to compete with full-time agents who have invested in new technology. Changing legal requirements, such as disclosure laws, also may dissuade some who are not serious about practicing full time from continuing to work part time."

That's an amazing statistic.  I see a lot of agents leaving the busines right now, or getting second jobs.  But, I still believe the market will be improving again (soon I hope) and then that influx or people will begin again.  It's a great industry.

Linda I agree. Several agents from my office have gone by the wayside.  Still the classes we have inhouse are filled or near filled with these bright eyed real estate want to bees. They must have heard we have a great union and want to join.

Yes, Joel & Teresa I'm laughing because of a broker that handed Busy Bee awards out to his new agents!  The wanna bees ate it up.  :-)  We keep adding to our numbers everyday in our office.  I know it's a difficult time to get in the business, so I try to help as much as I can.  I remember very well being new and wondering how I was ever going to get a client.
