Rural Minnesota Living has it's Challanges!

Now, don't get me wrong.  I love the rural area.  I grew up on the farm and living in a house in town is like caging an animal.

I love all the wildlife and when you are kind to them they sometimes take advantage of the generosity.

My wife and I walked out to the flower bed yesterday to admire her Tulips.

This is what they looked like on Monday...

Now looks like this!

It has become apparent that our local Bambi Population also like the tulips.   WE need to do some better protection by warding off the offenders with repellents.

I guess that if this is the worst they do, we are still doing well.

I still would not trade my home for in town!

William - Deer can be a problem in the country and it looks like they love Tulips!

Hi Bill,

I love your "animal-friendly" habits.  Plant the tulips and they will come!  Funny thing, I just planted some tomato seeds to get some starter plants.  Living at the base of the Sierras we have a late summer start...we'll see!

P.S. We used to have an organic fruit and vegetable farm in the Santa Cruz Mountains, and we worked out a "deal" with the local deer, racoons and other critters by "giving" them their own garden in which to dine...but no tulips!

Bill, I bet Judy was not happy.  She loves her flowers and works hard at it.

We both agree that it could have been worse.  but, we do need to do some deterrent work.

Oh no! I was preparing for some beauties Bill! Human hair and dog poo works as repellents. Dog poo keeps me away too!

That is too bad.  We are fortunate to live in the country, but in a neighborhood.  We used to have quite a few deer, but the dogs and the cars keep them at bay, I guess.

Too bad they did not bloom but poor bambi must have been very hungry...

Bill, that would make me ill.  I love each and every bulb I plant in the cold months of October and November.

Bill, before I read down to the "Bambi" remark I know what had happened.  I'm wondering if coyote urine/scent would scare them off...I also wander if that would attract coyotes.

I am working to attract the coyote's to a different spot.

I do have some ideas including the hair and poo.

More opinions than you want to hear about.

Would elecricity be helpful?  My garden gets some help from a unit from Fleet Farm charged with four d-cells, but that is mainly for racoons.

Bill, on the farm we deal with this all the time.   Not a lot we can do overall because of the big area.
