Looking for a family event near Howard County - check out Maryland Day 2012!

Saturday, April 27^th is Maryland Day and what better way to show your love for our glorious state than to bring your family to Maryland Day 2013  at the University of Maryland in College Park!!  There are an incredible number and variety of events, exhibits, seminars and games from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm!  Check out the website to plan your day and view the event map! 

I have friends who are UMD grads and they always talk about how pretty and walkable the campus is!  This amazing event showcases the beautiful buildings and green space.  Take the metro and wear your walking shoes to make the day easy and fun!  Food and drink are available throughout the event.

This annual event is indoor and outdoor (rain or shine!) and spread out over the entire campus including open spaces and university buildings and classrooms.  Thousands of people come out every year and the day includes hundreds of events, shows, seminars and even concerts! 

Activities for families and kids are marked with a smiley face on the website and the printed material to make it easy to find the best events for your family!  Not bringing the kids – plenty of adult tours, talks and presentations too! 

From 10:00 am - 4:00 pm you can explore, enjoy and experience diverse presentations and activities.  The Kids Carnival on McKeldin Mall includes a moon bounce, bungee run, a rock wall and other diversions for the kiddo's.  Rock out with the Hip Hop Orchestra at 3pm at the Clairice Smith Center and check out the Equestrian Club Horse show.  Spread throughout campus you will find:

Terp Town Center - A health and wellness center including cooking demonstrations using local Maryland ingredients and cuisine, a kid’s tent and carnival and family games and activities.

Science and Tech Way - A huge area for science exhibits and seminars like “How do Brain Scans Work?”  Talk to astronomers, conduct chemistry experiments, tour  UMD’s Virtual Reality Lab – the sky is the limit with science and technology here!

 The Arts Alley – Visit the Instrument Petting Zoo where anyway can hold and try a variety of instruments, take a West African Dance Class or enjoy a Jazz or Percussion concerts.

Biz and Society Hill – Exhibits in business, public policy and social sciences.    Career workshops, stress management, learn about apps for science and more!

Agriculture Avenue – Taste ice cream made from dairy cows that live right on campus, watch an Equestrian Club Horse Show, or learn about the type of crops that grew in Maryland in 1862 when the campus was built.
