One of my favorite virtual tours is actually a musical photo show video.  It's free!  It's easy!  It shows the best features of the home in a new and interesting way.

Click on the link shown below to watch the musical video tour of this vintage victorian home located in the historic St. Andrews area of Panama City, FL ... just a block from the shimmering waters of St. Andrews Bay.  After you click the link below, a new window will open.  You will need to click on WATCH, and the video tour should open in a separate window.  You may have to click on WATCH again and it takes a few seconds to load the video ... but so worth it.  Remember that it is musical, so be sure to have your speakers on.

Enjoy this musical virtual tour video:  HISTORIC VINTAGE VICTORIAN HOME

The main home has 4 bedrooms and 2 and 1/2 baths, formal living room (original hardwood floors), formal dining room, kitchen, breakfast room, den, in-ground pool.  The guest house has 1 bedroom and bath, kitchen, and living area.  List price $550,000.

 HISTORIC HOME

The Bay County Historical Society has researched this home and provided the Sellers with a complete history of the home, which they have also shared with me.  The homes is believed to have been built Circa 1876, due to a census report that was done in 1877 that showed the family was already living in the home.  It will be receiving a Heritage Market from the Historical Society.

The current owners have lived there approximately 20 years, and have kept the home in great condition while carefully preserving the Victorian style.  The living room hardwood floors have been beautifully restored along with the stairs leading to the second floor bedrooms and bath.

The home sits on a large corner lot less than a block from beautiful St. Andrews Bay in Panama City, FL.  It is impossible to resist showing photos of these sparkling St. Andrews Bay waters, which can be seen from the corner where the home is located.  Of course you can catch glimpses of the shimmering bay through the massive Sentry Oaks from several rooms inside the home.

The St. Andrews area of Panama City, FL is probably the most historic area of the County in that it was said to be where the first settlers built homes along the Bay.  It's obvious that the beauty of the bay-front would attract anyone to want to live here ... just imagine being the first to stake claim!  Homes along the Bay today range from half a million dollars to a million and a half (or more)!

This is the actual view of the Bay at the end of the corner street where this house is located less than a half block from the driveway.  St Andrews Bay opens to the IntraCoastal Waterway allowing boats or ships of any size to pass into the Gulf of Mexico and beyond!

The main floor of the home showcases the formal living room and dining room, plus a den that was once an exterior porch.  Now enclosed you can still feel the history when you touch the natural cedar walls that were the original exterior of the home.

Den walls were the original cedar exterior walls of this historic home.

The kitchen has a warm and cozy feeling with glass door cabinets and plenty of counter-top space.

The second story of the home was originally attic or loft space where children would have shared bedrooms.  According to the history of the home, there were 9 children raised here by the first generation of the original family who built the home.  Today there are two full sized bedrooms and a full bath, plus there is a loft-style room that can be a child's bedroom or playroom.  All of these rooms are just precious!  The cedar wall at the top of the stairs is original to the home, and the rooms have delightful decor keeping with the vintage Victorian tradition.

Not everything is original to the home, however!  There is a very modern addition in the large privacy fenced back yard.  The in-ground gunite swimming pool is nine and a half feet deep on the end with the diving board.

You can see the massive Sentry Oak Tree that stands between the main house and the guest house.  The guest house was originally built in 1938 when the owner at that time purchased one of the newest FORD automobiles to come to Bay County, FL.

If only that Sentry Oak could talk... what stories it could tell about the early families who lived along St Andrew Bay!

The Bay County Historical Society representative told me there were families who built "second homes" along the bay as early as the seventeen hundreds.  This area was part of Washington County at that time, and the early settlers who lived a bit farther inland had nice large homes on the Bay as second homes to enjoy the beach and fishing along the pristine bay waters.

It is believed that all the homes along St Andrews Bay were destroyed by a Northern Gunship during the Civil War in a senseless act of aggression.

How fortunate we hare to have this home, which is thought to be the oldest surviving "pioneer" home built in Victorian fashion remaining in the St. Andrews area of Bay County, Florida.

6 Comments on Vintage Victorian Home in Historic St Andrews Area, Panama City, FL

Hi Jan:  I really like this home.  My home looks nothing like this, but I surely wish it did.  It looks like my dream come true grandma house.  And, the Noel, Noel playing during the show was just wonderful.  Tear-filled eyes, my dear.  A great home.

Would you please... I love the doll sitting at the foot of the stairs next to the plant table.  She was mostly in white, and was just breathtaking.  Could you please, without disturbing the doll where she sits, could you take a picture of her and either post it, or perhaps email it to me.  Or, if you have the original that was in the photo story, email that, and I can crop it and enlarge it.   That would be so great.  I have wanted a doll like that for a very long time.  If it can still be purchased, could you find out where ?  I know I probably sound like a nine-year-old little girl... but maybe a part of me still is.  Thanks so much, and thanks for sharing.

Karen Anne,

We are soul sisters!  My sellers thought I was nuts taking photos of the bride doll.  But I knew she would make a special connection with people who love victorian era homes.  I will email a couple of photos of her to you separately.  But I also want to tell you that the bride in the portrait above her is actually the daughter of the sellers.  She grew up in this house and she had a completely victorian wedding including her dress and her mother's dress.  In the master bedroom is a sewing form with the victorian dress that her mother wore in the wedding.... shoes, too.  I'll ask about the availability of the doll.

This home is on a major street in downtown Panamam City, and so many people have called on my sign just to say how much they have always admired that house, and "oh, by the way, how much is it?"  When I tell them $550,000, that's usually the end of the curiosity call.  But I am getting a lot of name recognition from the yard sign!  Praying for the right buyer to see it soon.

Hi Jan: I just looked at the photo show. That was very nice. Great job.  Have you been getting any showings on the home ?  I hope it sells quickly... both for you and for the owners.

Karen Anne:

Yes, we had a wonderful open house this past Sunday, but mostly those attending were neighbors (but that is always a great way to meet new people).  We have also had a few private appointment showings... but the most exciting thing ... I'm working on writing a new post about it... and will have to update all the information on my websites and the MLS... the thing is that a member of the Bay Co Historical Society contacted me.  She had just completed a history of this home (and several others in the area)... turns out this is one of the oldest surviving pioneer-built home in Bay County.  Of course other homes were built before this one, but this is one of if not the oldest surviving home.  And it has been cared for and updated beautifully throughout the years.  May be circa 1876... still working on the details.  New post coming soon!
