Mr. and Mrs. Loren answered the door very politely as if I were a neighbor bringing tea...I smiled cautiously but with great delight...I was taken back to the days of my old neighborhood growing up. I smiled but I knew our quick "hello's" and brief conversations of families and friends would turn to the turmoil and out-of-control issues that led to our meeting this particular evening. The house was beautiful. Very simple yet clean furnishings. "How could this have happened to such a wonderful couple?", I thought.
This strong-willed listing agent pulled out the stack of papers to comb over and I began my interview. The hardship was what I was most concerned about. They explained to me how they purchased their home in 2006, the market turned, then...Mr. Loren was diagnosed with Cancer. The medical bills where increasing and of course they were being paid before the mortgage was. Unfortunately the Investors don't want to hear that so the threat of foreclosure has begun. The Bank said, "Find a Short Sale Realtor in Baltimore by Friday or we will not allow a Short Sale at all".
This was not a pleasant situation for Mrs. Loren at all. In fact...several emotions poured from her....embarrassment...sadness.....I put my papers away. I sat on the sofa next to the Loren's that evening. Yes, we signed the paperwork eventually. But not until we talked about our dreams of home ownership....and what it will look like for our children and grandchildren...and what I promised to do to protect it for them for years to come. You see, this was to be their final home. Their resting place.
