I am just a little curious...why can't I post my Blog to more than five groups?  I have seen others that have posted to many more than five groups and I cannot for the life of me figure out how to do it!  I have heard things about Active Rain changing their rules, but is there any way we can post to multiple groups?  I am currently making multiple blog entries to get the post in the groups I want them in.   Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Cody, I think that ages ago (in Active Rain time) you were allowed to post to many more groups, but they changed the rule to 5 groups only as to avoid people posting to every single group out there even when the post was not relevant to those groups only to garner more attention and exposure to the post.  I've been an active member or about 6 months and the 5 group rule has been in place the whole time.  Any posts that you have seen in more than 5 groups are grandfathered in from the original rules (which are more than 6 months old, at least).

Cody I am not sure why anyone is grandfathered in. The 5 group rule should be re-examined. I agree with you

Brian,

That makes some sense...I was wondering how they did that!

Cody,

I am with the thoughts that Active Rain tries to keep the posts relevant to each group....yet shouldn't that be on us?  ON the group leader?

Have a great New Year.

You are only grandfathered in if the post that was posted to more than 5 groups was done prior to the change in rule status.  People used to SPAM groups with their posts (join every single group and then try to sell something.)  While I do believe it is on the "group owner" this does help one (including myself) choose a little wiser on where to place the posts.

Heck, I have one guy who is always getting his Texas related posts deleted from my Las Vegas Area Real Estate Professionals group.  Frustrating.  He is about to lose his posting credentials if he can't figure it out soon.

It's sad that abuse from a few leads to large losses for the masses!

Cody,

I was wondering about that myself. Sometimes our post will be relevant to more than 5 groups.

Good question. I see both sides. There have been times that a post I wrote could have went to more than 5 groups, but usually 5 is enough. I do agree with others that the group leaders need to be a little more strick in what gets posted to groups.

Just remember that the group leaders have a life outside active rain also.  They don't need to be spending all their time policing our activities.

Want it in more than five groups.  Do multiple posts.  In other words, the burden is on you the poster, not the group leader.

I think it's a good rule as I saw some posts that are nothing but "Hey, Hire me! Refer me! MeMe!

And they were posted to nearly every dang group in the Rain.

I see both sides, however, I think only five groups is a little low.  I think 10 is a fair number and It still allows some control on mass postings!

I agree with the 10, maybe they will reconsider it here on AR!  However, just because you post to more, doesn't mean you will get more comments!  If you truly focus on writing quality content, you will be surprised just how many times you actually get featured on the front page of AR!

Five groups seems fair enough.  As one of the other posters said, so many posts are irrelevant to the groups they are sent to.  With our membership having grown so much this year, it is difficult to read even a few posts each day.  Let's not muddy the waters.
