Surrounded by forest preserves, with an abundance of open land and lake, Warrenville offers a quiet, semi-rural atmosphere. Settled by Julius Warren in 1833 and incorporated in 1967, Warrenville has earned the "Tree City" Award by the National Arbor Day Foundation. Warrenville has also been the recipient of the Governor's Hometown Award three times in recent years - 1986, 1987 and 1990.
The Warrenville school system is covered by two school districts including Districts 94 and 200. Most students attend Wheaton-Warrenville District 200 from elementary school through high school. A strong academic program is offered at Wheaton-Warrenville South High School of District 200 along with a variety of extra-curricular activities. High school students in some parts of Warrenville will attend West Chicago Community High School of District 94 which offers advanced placement courses, a learning resource center with plenty of technological tools and a professional library. There is a great variety of academic clubs and various athletic activities including a swimming program. There is also a Catholic elementary school located in Warrenville.
The business community has seen significant growth during the past few years and is now home to a number of industrial parks and shopping centers. Warrenville is home to the corporate headquarters of BP America Inc., International Truck & Engine Inc. and Exon Nuclear.
