The Nationwide Open House Weekend is about promoting homeownership - I'm all for it, owning a home is still part of the American Dream and a great long-term investment, especially at today's low interest rates. Open Houses are generally a good way to get an idea what is available and for how much.

However, please keep in mind that the agent present is representing the seller! If you are already working with a Realtor® please advice them of your agency relationship, present his/her business card and be careful about how much you disclose, especially if a house really piques your interest.

Hi Lisa, I can see participation vary greatly by region. You certainly have a point - with all the information available online, a big Open House event seems questionable. However, I'm all for the promoting homeownership part!
