Shenandoah Iowa

The Real Estate Market in Shenandoah is very stable. If you bought a home in the 1980 a $40,000  in the 1980's and today that home will sell for $80,000. (However when you think of homes there you will find a range of home prices between $12900 to 349000. When you visualize a home think  3 bed and 2 bath. think 1100 to 1400 sqft. Think Snow in the Winter and long hot iowa days for the summer. Think four seasons. See a town with corn fields and soy beans surrounding it)

Now when you adjust that pricing for inflation and consider other factors. That appreciation is not something  to write home about. The prices of homes do not change that much. Even when you factor in that 1000 jobs have been created in Shenandoah, the population has hung in around 6000 in 1980 and 6000 in 1990 and 6000 in 2000 (technically the population is 5546) Median income in Shenandoah  is about $40,000(39110)

Several interesting things have happen to Shenandoah. A wealthy person in the town died leaving several million to Shenandoah with one provision: The Town needs to grow in population.

Shenandoah wanted to realize the boon. So they encouraged a Wall-mart to come into town. They also have a part in Pella Windows which has at one time employed 60 people. They have also had a hourse trailer business started there and other business venues.

Apparently their did well enough, and monies have been used in trust for Shenandoah. Monies to expand the local library. Monies to help with other public concerns.

If you ever visit in the spring summer autumn take a bike and do the Wabash Trace it is a nice ride.
