Over the holidays there hasn't been much on TV.  Normally this would not be a problem but my husband has been off from work the entire month and watching TV and playing golf are his hobbies.

This is the time of the year for reruns.   So what has he been watching?  All the good old westerns I grew up with.  I remember them well.  There was RAWHIDE where Clint Eastwood got his start.  I watched that when I was a very young girl.  I just loved Clint Eastwood.

Then who could ever forget Matt Dillion on GUNSMOKE?  I watched that when I was in high school.  I lived with my grandmother and I we couldn't wait each week for Gunsmoke to come on.  Seems like yesterday.  We wondered why he never married Kitty.  Does anyone know?

Another old favorite of mine is The PONDEROSA which gave Michael Langdon his start.  It was indeed a sad day when in real life Michael Langdon died at a young life.  Who could ever forget the Cartright family?  Not me.

I can even go back further to Roy Rogers and Dale Evans, Howdy Doo Dee, Lone Ranger and Tonto, and all those other old shows.  This all shows my age but who cares...I'm alive and well in College Station, Texas.

I love the new shows and can't wait for them to return.  But this break was enjoyable with Gunsmoke, Rawhide, and Ponderosa in our home for the holidays.....

I know exactly what you mean, Kay!  Those old shows can take you right back to those good ol' days.... I love to do that...Best wishes for a happy and prosperous New Year!

Sounds like you are doing some fun reminising! That means you probably also watched some of them in B&W   LOL

I think it was Bonanza and the Cartwrights lived on the Ponderosa Ranch, wasn't it?  Anyway, if I remember correctly, Miss Kitty ran a house of ill repute on the second floor of the saloon.  How would it look if a U.S. Marshal joined that family business?

I had an old black and white TV in college, no cable.  The only shows I was able to get in were Gunsmoke and Wheel of Fortune.

I remember all of those shows :-) Though I think they were in color when I watched them :-)

Kay, actually The Ponderosa was called Bonanza and Michael's last name was spelled Landon.  Here is a link to Wikipedia about his life's accomplishments.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Landon  His other shows were terrific as well - Little House on the Prairie and Highway to Heaven.  We now have his son, Michael Landon, Jr., providing us with quality shows that we've seen on The Hallmark Channel.  My wife and I think that they are excellent and remind us of Michael Sr's great body of work.

Of course, I loved the other ones, too!  Hooray for the writer's strike and Happy New Year!

Bonanza was the first TV series to be broadcast in color and it's the first show us kids wanted to view when our father brought home a new color TV in the early 1960's.

Kay--I loved watching old westerns on Saturday afternoons. I wasn't much of a Gunsmoke fan but Rawhide and Bonanza were favorites...Had a crush on Little Joe. :)

Kay, your post was like taking a tour down memory lane.  My Dad loved all those westerns so I grew up on them.  My favorite was Ponderosa and it was sad when Michael Landon died.  I still love watching just about anything Melissa Gilbert does.

Hi everyone, Yep I guess I got the title incorrect on Bonanza and misspelled Landon but I sure loved those shows.  I also had a 'crush' on Clint Eastwoood and Michael Landon.

OH Kay, how about WAGON TRAIN?  Remember that dreamy ROWDY YATES?  where Clint Eastwood actually got his start.  pre-Rawhide times.

Hi Kay:  I never watched Rawhide very much, but I watched Gunsmoke every week.  I remember Marshall Dillon, and Miss Kitty at the Longbranch Saloon.  And don't forget Chester, now.  Roy Rogers and Dale Evans... I watched them all the time.  Roy's horse Trigger, and Dale's horse Buttermilk.  I liked Dale.  She was a sharpie.  Roy controlled everything, but Dale controlled Roy... LOL.  The woman behind the throne.

I watched Howdy Doody and all his Doodyville friends every day.  Buffalo Bob, Princess Summerfall Winterspring, Clarabelle the clown, little silly Dilly Dally, and the old crab Phineas T. Bluster.  Lots of memories.  And no violence.  Ahhh... time goes by.  Take care, Kay, thanks for sharing.

Gail - When I was writing this I told my husband it was called Wagon Train.

Karen Anne - Looks like we are all about the same age.  I'm glad everyone enjoyed going back into time.

Oh, you're forgetting Big Valley... I loved Bonanza.  I grew up watching all of those, though Howdy Doody and the Lone Ranger were in syndication... but they were still on.

I love all of these!

Thanks for the memories.

Hi Kay, I remember them all. When I was about 3 or 4 I had such a crush on Roy Rodgers.  I still love Clint Eastwood.  My husband is that type of guy.  I wish he would take break.  He has been working 24/7 either in his job or at my son's redoing a bathroom.  He needs a break but he likes to be busy.  We are expecting 6-8 inches of snow, yuck, Oh well we are healthy and we have heat. Best to you in 2008.

I wonder how long it has been since there was a western show on TV?   I think the last show that was similar was probably Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman.  Shows seem to go in spurts, at one time it was all family comedys, now it seems like crime shows and reality TV.

Kay-I can remember as a little girl watching these reruns with my dad when he would come in town.  Bonanza was at the top of the list too.  Thank you for bringing back those memories.  Best of wishes for 2008!

Oh I loved Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman, I had completely forgot about that show.  Maybe this is why I no longer watch much television.

The Andy Griffith Show.  My favorite episode was when deputy Barney Fife got his Real Estate license and worked his first deal.  That was hilarious.

Kay - Thanks for bringing these old shows back to mind.  All the best in 2008!

And Daniel Boone and Palladin. Westerns were all the rage when I was growing up, so that's all I watched.
