Politics and Real Estate in Northern Virginia

Let me begin this post by saying this is only my second Presidential election year as a REALTOR®.  However, I have lived in Northern Virginia my entire life.  If there is one thing I know, it's the temperament of our Northern Virginia culture.

Northern Virginia is an economy fueled by the Federal government.  And when there is political indecisiveness, like who is going to be the Republican nominee for President, things can get a little....constipated.  It wasn't until yesterday that I put two and two together with the flood of decisions that are suddenly being made in our Northern Virginia real estate market.  Wednesday morning I woke up to hear Mitt Romney was going to be the Republican nominee.  Finally!  A decision.  The Republican version of Rock 'Em, Sock 'Em Robots was over.  What happened next was every buyer on my roster wanted to write an offer.  My listings were going under contract so fast my head was swimming.  I've had three straight days of working from sun up to beyond sun down.

It wasn't that we weren't busy before, but there seemed a lack of decision.  Call me nuts but I think our area is so influenced by politics that the simple fact that we know there is one of two people that are going to steer our country for the next four years is a huge relief.

Chris Ann, even with certainty over who will be the nominee, it's not quite certain who will be president come next year or which party will control which house of Congress. It's still funny how little elements of certainty can have an impact on the marekt.

The key word is "steer!"  And where!

Wanda is home now, but slept most of the day.  Things are looking better.  Thanks for your help!

Pat:  Can't wait to see the flood of business that comes after the big decision as to who the President for the next four years will be.

Jay:  Glad that she's homes, and I bet she is too.  You may be seeing me again this week.  Gave your number to another buyer who needs an inspection.

Wallace:  I suspect the same thing.

William:  I am whole heartedly convinced we are going to jump back and forth as neither party is really interested in solving the tough problems ahead.  We are simply playing hot potato.
