There’s nothing like the soft nudge of a kitten’s nose, the sound of a cat’s contented purr, the happy wag of a puppy’s tail, or the calming feeling of a dog’s chin on your lap. The unconditional love offered by our furry friends can make anyone’s day brighter, especially for those who are confined to a nursing home, hospital or recovery center.
Fortunately for people in the Clear Lake area of Houston, there are plenty of certified therapy pets willing to provide unconditional love and affection. The Faithful Friends Animal Assisted Therapy group in Clear Lake provides animal assisted therapy to people in the Clear Lake/League City areas.
The group, an outreach ministry of the University Baptist Church in Clear Lake, visits nursing homes, schools, reading programs, hospitals, psychiatric units, etc. with an assortment of pets who provide love and affection to people who need a little lift in spirit.
The groups visit at all times of the week with dogs, cats, rabbits, ferrets, etc.
Anyone can volunteer to be part of this outreach program even if you don’t attend University Baptist Church, or even if you don’t have a pet of your own. If you and your pet would like to participate, you can attend one of the new member workshops on the third Saturday of every second month (so June 16 would be the next date). These workshops are for human volunteers, only!
