Carnival Spirit

Carnival Spirit as Photographed Yesterday, April 28th,2012

With her cruises starting and ending in San Diego for a number of years, this will be the last year for the Carnival Spirit to be in San Diego. The ship left port yesterday for Hawaiian Islands stopping in Kona, Hilo and Kauai.

During the summer months this year she will cruise to the Alaskan ports of Ketchekan, Juneau, Skageway and Victoria. In the winter months she will head out again from San Diego for the Mexican Riviera.

Starting in 2013, the Carnival Spirit will be making history being based in Australia, the first time the Carnival line has ever had a ship permanently based outside of North America. I know that San Diego will greatly miss the Carnival Spirit.

William - Do we know why the decision was made for Carnival to base Spirit in Australia after all these years?  Perhaps they have something else planned for San Diego.  Your location seems a likely port for so many destinations - Mexico, Hawaii, Alaska, Victoria, etc.  I don't see that being the case from Australia.

William,

Ditto on Myrl's questions.  I love love your pictures of the ship!  We get little cruise ships here, and I am sure it adds to the economy as Carnival has added to San Diego's.  A

Hi Myrl, It is just a change made by the company and there are no other ships being planned at this time. I do believe I read that they are maintianing another shp in LA.

Hi Alexandra, I would think that this ship has greatly enhanced the economics of San Diego and the Port of San Diego. Not sure what future plans may be at the Port but they are a very active and vital enterprise for the region.

What a great set of voyages you have highlighted William. Wow to be based in Australia. Quite a change for the crew of this ship unless it will be a new crew.

Hi Gary, It might be a real change which I am sure it will be and I would love to be on the crew. Maybe I could take photos, LOL. Destination Autralia being on my bucket list remains.

Hi John, It will be sad to see her go but Australia will be a great venue.

William I have not been on a cruise in quite a while but I would highly recommend anyone reading to go on one - they are a ball!

Hi Bill, Great advise. Personally I love them and my next one I hope will be to the Mediterranean. There are some really good deals out there and hopefully some will take advantage of some the great savings, especially at the end of Summer and early next Spring
