If you have a secluded getaway like a log cabin in the woods you need to insure that you very carefully remove the weeds, underbrush and debris around to insure that you are safe from wildfires. So often people lose their homes who are near forests or wilderness because they fail to take precautions and protect their residents.

A barrier of 50 to 100 feet makes sense and 50 yards is best. But many folks will not do this, as they like a certain amount of vegetation around them? Indeed, that makes sense too for comfort and quality of life issues, yet consider if you will the ramifications for this position when crisis strike.

Additionally one of the easiest things you can do is clear out the weeds and dried brush and grass so that it does not pose a fire hazard. For those who live in regular homes which are set up against wilderness areas you also would be well advised to take notice and remove any dried brush which could catch fire if and when a fire approaches. Note in this picture above the catastrophe waiting to happen, notice how dry it is here.

Once the fire starts all the good intentions are irrelevant, it's too late and most have to run for their lives, cutting the brush ahead of time is the only way to protect against fire loss in wooded areas. Too often folks lose everything for they fail to take precautions seriously. It is sub-human to not plan ahead, humans have larger brains for a reason, so we suggest they use them in advance of the wildfires. Something to contemplate in 2008.
