They Might As Well Go Home....

We could have the earliest end to a legislative session in Minnesota history.  The legislators are working toward early adjournment, leaving many scratching their heads.  There are a lot of Republicans who are divided about when to end the sessions.  Some want to get the stadium bill passed, leaving other more urgent issues to the side according to their own caucus.

Senate Republicans who control the Legislature also had to control and confront a Senate sex scandal involving our own senator, Amy Koch and  an ethics inquiry

They probably feel as if they have had enough.  And, I agree.  Capitol insiders envision a burst of last-minute deal-making if legislative leaders get behind the plan that already has the firm backing of DFL Gov. Mark Dayton.

But with all 201 legislative seats up for re-election, the thirst to broker a complex deal may lose out to a growing itch to flee the Capitol and hit the campaign trail.

And, they are still trying to pass a stadium bill.

Sometimes Suzanne as we say in Texas, when the legislators are gone GOOD. Less laws often is better.

I think I agree with you, Gary, after looking at the legislative report card.  And, Debbie, we do our best to keep our public aware of the issues such as the new redistricting, the stadium issue, etc.

Suzanne... your state is so fortunate to have the backing of the DFL and Governor Mark Dayton.  What a mess it would be without him.  From what I know, and from what you have written, if the conservative Republicans leave the legislature early to campaign for the seats they are in danger of losing it will only make them all that more vulnerable... as they should be.

At least you have Senator Franken and Senator Klobuchar to protect the interests of the Middle Class.  Thank goodness for them.

It's no wonder that nothing ever gets done with the legislators.  Plus they want the time off to hit the camprain trail and put the country on hold!  They should finish up what they were elected to do and do that other stuff on their own time!

William:  I agree with you.  Getting rid of even a few of them would be great.  Michelle Bachmann would be a great one to start with.  Nationally, she is such an embarrassment to the good people of Minnesota.  I know Texas is a "red" state... but even down here, people laugh at her and her husband's antics.

It sounds as if the mood of the country is to take out quite a few incumbents this year so they are probably right to worry.

Suzanne,

Politicans all over this great nationare mostly of the same cloth and are more worried about their own welfare than the welfare of the of nation and voters. These days I would love to throw most of them out of office and start fresh.
