Beautiful Blooms From a Cactus

It is rare that I would think of a cactus as a beautiful blooming plant.

While my husband and I were sight-seeing in Madrid, New Mexico, we came across a beautiful cactus in full bloom.

Since we don’t have many cactus growing in Colorado, I have never seen anything like this.  At first I thought it was not a real plant.  As we got closer, I saw that it was just Mother Nature showing off again.

I’m sure if I tried to grow this at home, I would quickly kill it, so I decided to take a picture to share with all of you.

Good morning Belinda -

Most people don't think of a cactus as a pretty plant but indeed they are.  Even when not in bloom they hold much character which I find amazing.  Hope you have a great Colorado day my friend.

Belinda,  I am not sure Rocky would like one in his play area.  That could be trouble for him.

Beautiful photo! Flowering cacti are especially beautiful, I think, because they have to endure such hardship to get that bloom out!

Hi Everyone.  What amazed me was that this pretty cactus was growing in the middle of a rock patch.

Belinda~ I believe cactus plants are survivors, so I'm sure if you had one at home it would be just fine! :-)

Hi Belinda, I visited one of the largest specimen cactus gardens in the US and I saw things I never realized existed. The blooming cactus varieties are so stunning and so varied in shape and size.

Beautiful, Belinda. Cactus can be very pretty when blooming--the rest of the time, they bite.
