CONTRABAND DAYS BEGINS

MAY 1-13, 2012

Ahoy mates, It's that time of year again for Contraband Days when the City of Lake Charles is overtaken by Pirates!

Of Course the Contraband Pirate Royalty Reigns and can be seen near the Buccaneers Compound.

Unique to Lake Charles, this year will be the 55th year of the festival which celebrates the legend of pirate Jean Lafitte. The story goes that pirate Jean Lafitte docked his boat right on the sandy shore of Lake Charles and buried his treasure somewhere along its banks.  For two weeks the Buccaneer Pirates set up their compound at the Lake Charles seawall.

You will spot boats filled in the Marina and along the seawall near the Boardwalk all throughout Contraband Days!

Along with modern boats, the Nina and the Pinta Columbus ships will also be present during Contraband Days.

This year the Contraband Days Festival is bigger and better with  with non-stop music, events and activities for the whole family.  Be on your best behavior so the Pirates don't throw you in the stockade!

Hi Marilyn. This was very informative for me, since I didn't know about the Contraband Days in Lake Charles being your Largest Festival in Louisiana. Great History lesson about the Buccaneer Pirates too.

Jerry, yes Contraband Days has become the largest festival it brings visitors to SWLA and we like that!

Endre I am not proud of being thrown in the stocks LOL

Doug- YES Columbus ships have tours available check my previous blog for the contact for times I put the link in.  They have been scheduling school tours and lots of people going through the ship.
